How to decorate my bedroom?

Watch Me G

I'm a college kid commuting to school aka still living at home with my parents.

I've recently decided to completely redecorate my room.

Basically after you walk in, the ceiling slants in like a triangle.

The only window in the room is on the opposite side of the door.

The bed is perpendicular to the window.

So far, all I have is strung lights framing the window.

I know I want to do a map of the world on one side of the ceiling with the quote "not all those who wander are lost".

What else should I do to decorate?

Answer
I love the world map and quote idea!

I was going to suggest hanging string lights and drape a sheer sequin curtain in your accent color over the lights on the sloped ceiling cascading down behind your bed http://www.walmart.com/ip/Beacon-Looms-Groovy-Sequin-Interlined-Curtain-Panel/16662997

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mabbkuTeP11r72hyuo1_500.jpg
But since you already framed the window you could hang the sheer sequin curtain on the window.

Swirling flowers decal would look great on the slope above your headboard.

Any DIY Teen (girl) bedroom design?

Whoops

So I have had my room decorated the same since I was a young girl. Now I am trying to make it more me by hanging up pictures, re-arranging furniture etc I cant repaint or buy new furniture or anything like that. So far I added a huge collage of pictures and quotes on one of my walls. I am thinking of hanging sheets from the ceiling like this- http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6d34t4I001qbmuv5o1_1280.jpg but I'm not sure. Are there any other things I could do to make my room be more me and less little kid-ish?

Answer
Sheets, will collect bugs, dust, and spiders. Trust me...and they'll need cleaning every few months. Frankly, as a designer, that room is a mess to me. Not just chaos, but hard to maintain. However, if you use SHEERS, instead of a heavier, flat sheet, you'll get a softer feel to your room. If you have help, you can run a string thru the rod pocket, and cinch them up. That way, a simple hook will hold them at the gathered end, and you can drape them from there. I suggest long, narrow panels.

If you use the lighting idea, please use LED strands. They put off no heat, like regular holiday lights do. This save energy, and lives. You don't to decorate in charred woods and ash, right?

Experiment and have fun, as your mom will allow, but remember: You outgrew the other room, and you'll change your mind again, as you and your needs change. Make your additions easy to remove, and easy to repair. I love the 3-M hooks, that hold lots, and then come off walls with a light tug. Mom will appreciate you not making holes...so visit the hardware section, and load up!

Have fun. I got my love for decorating and design, starting with my own room.

Answer
First of all, I think the sheets idea is awesome and looks really cool, but just make sure they aren't anywhere that makes them a fire hazard. Maybe pbteen.com could help you with ideas of arrangement and decorating of the room. Also, I found this picture of putting glow balls inside stockings and hanging them from the ceiling which would be really cool with the sheets thing. http://pinterest.com/pin/71916925269898869/ Another idea could be laminating flowers or something to put on your wall (idk my sister did it). Good luck. Hopefully I helped a little. :)

Making sloped walls look bigger?

kids bedroom ideas tumblr
on ... bedroom furniture, bedroom furniture ideas, bedroom ideas tumblr
kids bedroom ideas tumblr image

Bob Copley

I am making my small attic into two open bedrooms. How and what colors should I use to make it lok larger?

Answer
Using a semi gloss white paint on the walls and a gloss paint on the ceiling will help the area appear larger, and reflect the natural and/or electric light entering the attic space. Even a very light dove grey would catch the available light. Use accessories, area rugs, and bedding to add color against these neutral backgrounds.

If you want to try a soft color, consider painting the walls a pale celadon green or a very pale powder blue, with white ceiling, molding, and framing. Link 3 shows another option, the color slightly darker, which has the walls painted a rose taupe with white ceiling and trim. For a different color blend, the Bathing.Info link shows shades reminiscent of the seashore. Another option is the use of wallpaper on the headboard wall with white ceiling and off-white walls to expand an open space; see the Shelterness.com link.

i am depressed. i have no motivation for anything, i just want to be in bed forever. I hate feeling so alone but when i am with people sometimes i feel even worse, i feel lonely, even with other people, i have no idea what to do, i hate myself so much, i feel sick just looking in the mirror. and i am just a kid, i am only 14 years old. i told my parents that i just don't feel happy like used to and i am seeing a therapist, but i don't think i can't get better, i have such terrible and negative thoughts, and i am sick and tired of people saying it's all in your head, because i know and that doesn't make it any less real.
i also have exams and i just can't concentrate i don't know anything, i failed almost all my tests and that makes me feel even worthless. and i have to study to pass, i only have one day till my geography exam, but it's like the "voice" in my head won't let me.
oh and i just started cutting a week ago and i really didn't want to get into cutting but now i won't stop and i cut deeper every time. i have no idea what i am doing everyday i am getting worse. death seems like the only solution and i don't even have the guts to do it.
pleasee help, i really have no idea what to do..

Answer
I pretty much know exactly how you feel. I'm dealing with depression and ptsd as well as anxiety but I've been improving so i think i can help you. :) I'm 16 and during my depression i also started isolating myself from my friends and family. Here are some tips to help you be happier:
1. Re-decorate or clean your room. Trust me, it works really well. Even if you can't redecorate, try cleaning/emptying your closets, throwing away all your trash, re-organize your makeup/trinkets and your books. Maybe you'll re-discover an old book or a movie that you forgot about. When you're done cleaning, feng-shui your bedroom, it helped me a lot. Get some fresh flowers and try to always keep some in a vase near your bed. Could you maybe get some nice smelling candles and light them up before you go to bed? Keep your windows open and let in some natural light, get new bedsheets, put some pictures of your family and friends up, make a dream wall with your favourite quotes and pictures, like a tumblr in your bedroom lol :D :)
2. Take a shower or a bath. Trust me, give yourself an hour in the shower or the bath. Treat yourself to some new bath stuff, maybe from lush or so, even nice smelling body wash or soap, (lavender and vanilla are my faves) spend some time in the bath with a book and maybe some music on.
3. Make time for yourself. You need time just for you. Especially if you feel like isolating yourself, give yourself an hour or so a day where you can just forget everything and enjoy. take a bath, take a walk, take a nap, sing something, give yourself a manicure/pedicure.
4. Develop a hobby- (As generic as it may sound, it works for me when my depression gets really bad) I started knitting a month ago and it's so rewarding. I love it so much! I've also started learning how to crochet. Maybe try knitting, crochetting, drawing or writing? Maybe buy some fabric and make some bracelets or get a bead set. Get some glitter and a glue gun and brighten up an old pair of sneakers.Decorate a school folder or something.
5. Music.
Music is so amazingly helpful. Sometimes i get in these moods where I just want to listen to something sad or something happy. Here are some suggestions:
FOR BAD MOODS-
Dead hearts- Stars
Skinny love- Birdy
Samson- Regina Spektor
Here is a heart- Jenny Owen Young
Angels-Owl City
Just give me a reason- Pink
Of Monsters and Men- Little Talks
Greg Laswell- Off I go, I'd be lying, and then there's you
Athlete- Wires
FOR GOOD MOODS
Sweet sweet melody- Katie Sky
Beautiful Day-DJ Melodie
Coconut Records-Nighttiming
He is We- Happily ever after, pardon me, I wouldn't mind
Every Avenue- Girl like that

Alright then, I wrote way too much. Lol! Anyway. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck <3

So Im a teenager and im moving to a new house, and the walls are cement, etc. everything is ready we just have to choose a color or colors to paint my room. The bed, desk and the basic furniture are all black (should i change it to white?) Anyways, i want to paint my room with lots of colors, i want to make it very colorful, like one wall purple, one blue, pink, yellow, gray, etc. I need some ideas on what colors to choose.... And if u have any pictures of rooms please put the link.
Thanks!

Answer
Best to paint one wall in your fave color as your accent wall and the remaining walls a bright color. Then add colorful decor. Too many bold colored walls can make a room look child-like. -wish I knew if you were a guy or girl ?

For ex. an aqua room with purple accent wall and black furniture

Place your bed on the purple accent wall http://www.pampai.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Dazzling-purple-and-turquoise-bedroom-with-white-vinyl-wall-sticker-424x450.jpg

4. Develop a hobby- (As generic as it may sound, it works for me when my depression gets really bad) I started knitting a month ago and it's so rewarding. I love it so much! I've also started learning how to crochet. Maybe try knitting, crochetting, drawing or writing? Maybe buy some fabric and make some bracelets or get a bead set. Get some glitter and a glue gun and brighten up an old pair of sneakers.Decorate a school folder or something.
5. Music.
Music is so amazingly helpful. Sometimes i get in these moods where I just want to listen to something sad or something happy. Here are some suggestions:
FOR BAD MOODS-
Dead hearts- Stars
Skinny love- Birdy
Samson- Regina Spektor
Here is a heart- Jenny Owen Young
Angels-Owl City
Just give me a reason- Pink
Of Monsters and Men- Little Talks
Greg Laswell- Off I go, I'd be lying, and then there's you
Athlete- Wires
FOR GOOD MOODS
Sweet sweet melody- Katie Sky
Beautiful Day-DJ Melodie
Coconut Records-Nighttiming
He is We- Happily ever after, pardon me, I wouldn't mind
Every Avenue- Girl like that

Alright then, I wrote way too much. Lol! Anyway. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck <3
