How to decorate my bedroom?

Watch Me G

I'm a college kid commuting to school aka still living at home with my parents.

I've recently decided to completely redecorate my room.

Basically after you walk in, the ceiling slants in like a triangle.

The only window in the room is on the opposite side of the door.

The bed is perpendicular to the window.

So far, all I have is strung lights framing the window.

I know I want to do a map of the world on one side of the ceiling with the quote "not all those who wander are lost".

What else should I do to decorate?

Answer
I love the world map and quote idea!

I was going to suggest hanging string lights and drape a sheer sequin curtain in your accent color over the lights on the sloped ceiling cascading down behind your bed http://www.walmart.com/ip/Beacon-Looms-Groovy-Sequin-Interlined-Curtain-Panel/16662997

But since you already framed the window you could hang the sheer sequin curtain on the window.

Swirling flowers decal would look great on the slope above your headboard.

Cut remaining fabric 13x30" and lay across your dresser as a cute runner to tie everything together.
or
Make a cute accent pillow for your bed. Easy to sew with a needle and thread if you can't use a sewing machine.
Cut fabric 13x30"
Fold the fabric in half, in-side-out so the color/print is inside.
Sew 1/2" in, along the edge on the two long sides, leaving the short end open.
Turn pillow cover right-side-out so the color/print is on the outside.
Fill with batting or even with a sweater/shirt you don't wear anymore.
Then sew up the opening.

Any DIY Teen (girl) bedroom design?

Whoops

So I have had my room decorated the same since I was a young girl. Now I am trying to make it more me by hanging up pictures, re-arranging furniture etc I cant repaint or buy new furniture or anything like that. So far I added a huge collage of pictures and quotes on one of my walls. I am thinking of hanging sheets from the ceiling like this- http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6d34t4I001qbmuv5o1_1280.jpg but I'm not sure. Are there any other things I could do to make my room be more me and less little kid-ish?

Answer
Sheets, will collect bugs, dust, and spiders. Trust me...and they'll need cleaning every few months. Frankly, as a designer, that room is a mess to me. Not just chaos, but hard to maintain. However, if you use SHEERS, instead of a heavier, flat sheet, you'll get a softer feel to your room. If you have help, you can run a string thru the rod pocket, and cinch them up. That way, a simple hook will hold them at the gathered end, and you can drape them from there. I suggest long, narrow panels.

If you use the lighting idea, please use LED strands. They put off no heat, like regular holiday lights do. This save energy, and lives. You don't to decorate in charred woods and ash, right?

Experiment and have fun, as your mom will allow, but remember: You outgrew the other room, and you'll change your mind again, as you and your needs change. Make your additions easy to remove, and easy to repair. I love the 3-M hooks, that hold lots, and then come off walls with a light tug. Mom will appreciate you not making holes...so visit the hardware section, and load up!

Have fun. I got my love for decorating and design, starting with my own room.
