I want to transform my master bedroom into a lovers nest?

Q. Okay, I know it sounds corny, but it's true. I want our master bedroom to be romantic, relaxing, safe and inviting. I would like to come up with a color scheme that would make this work. My hubby is a very manly man and wouldn't go for pinks or purples (maybe in moderation) so think of it as a unisex room. Thanks so much.

A. I also have a very romantic room, here it is...first thing...remove any pictures of the family (kids, parents, etc.) DO have pics of you 2 as a couple. Have at least one sexy painting on the wall, maybe an abstract couple, or a suggestive (of body parts) flower, a mermaid, nude sketches, birds, or very "mature" hearts. DO use dark colors on the wall ours is a dark, musky greyish, greenish-blue. Dark and big wood furniture, candles, MIRRORS!!! Minimize any trinkets on the dressers, if you do have anything on tables go for birds(or other graceful animal) in twos...keeping a "couples" theme. Possibly a framed love poem. Display one or two of your most recent anniversary or I love you cards. Your wedding champagne glasses would make great votive holders. Most importantly is bedding...do not skimp here! buy the most comfortable pillows, high thread count cotton or sateen sheets, a soft (down is best) comforter with a very dark duvet (mine is black with dark tropical leaves) animal print could be nice too but nothing over the top, white sheets are always good because they really feel clean and can be bleached when soiled : ) and the white isnt seen when the bed is made so its cool. Red can be used to ignite passion but only as an accent color as it can create anger in large doses. Dont keep statues, books, TVs, etc in your room as they cause distraction from sleep and from romance, if you have any electronics it should be a small cd player for you love music! As tempting as it may be dont get throw pillows, you want your bed to always look like it is ready for you! Keep your room free of clutter always. Have dark or black-out window covering...so that anytime of the day can be candle lit or dark. If you have room a loveseat with a simple pattern or even better, a portable massage table (oh so fun!) would be a nice addition. And now they sell furniture for ease of positioning while being intimate...Im not sure of that website but I know you can access it at Playboy.com through their store (super fun stuff) Anyway, I know I gave you a load of info but I know how important a romantic bedroom is!!! I used these suggestions myself and have a wildly romantic bedroom that my ( also very manly) husband just loves, nothing too femine--and our love life DID increase ten-fold after redecorating!! Good luck and have fun!!! Oh yeah, and make sure your overhead light has a dimmer switch or otherwise turn-it-down-but not off option!

What color should I paint the walls in a room with antique furniture?
Q. We are redoing my bedroom and are looking for different options to paint the walls. The furniture consists of an antique four-posted bed (dark maple) with a matching antique dresser. We were thinking something semi-neutral because it is going to be used as a guest room/overnight room for grand kids. Any suggestions?

A. Antique white, of course.

For color, put up paintings or such.

What color should my comforter and bedroom accessories be?
Q. My bedroom walls are "the hulk" green (hand-me-down room from my brother) and my bed frame is white. I bought two small pink pillows and i don't know what color to buy my comforter or book shelf in. the room is a little tight on space, especially with the size of my bed. i don't want more white furniture and i don't want to overdo it with color. what colors do you suggest? :)

A. Chocolate and pink comforter is perfect for your room,
purple/lavender also coordinates with green and pink.

How would I go about designing an Audrey Hepburn bedroom?
Q. My room is teeny tiny and my mum is allowing me to do whatever I want to it, I want an Audrey Hepburn style room, my family has bought me a few pictures. What colour scheme/furniture would look best to work with the theme? I am 16 next month if thats important...
She was an old hollywood actress

Tada!

A. Audrey Hepburn was a very stylish lady of the times. She was most famous in films in the 1950's. So I would choose things from that era.

She worn pearls, tight waist belts to show off her tiny waistline, she carried a fashionable purse always and a hat.
She was always very put together.

One of the ideas in decorating in that time frame was to do a black and white decor with splashes of pinks, blacks or grays. Sometimes reds. They had silver fabrics too with lots of shimmer and elegance.
Choose things with lots of sparkle she was a Hollywood star!
Poka-dots were really in fashion.

Furniture was a modern now retro style, very streamline in style or to the other extreme of curves more Victorian in style and often in white or deep wood tones. Tufted headboards on the beds with tacks.
Art nouveau mirrors , elegant chairs, Chrystal glass sparkly lamps.
You can likely find much of the furniture are used stores or Salvation Army stores. A little paint or furniture polish they will look new again.

Here are some links to some decals of dots to carry through the idea of poka-dots onto your walls. The poka-dots were usually black on pink or black or red on white. You could paint your room pink and put some dots all over a wall and a few scattered in limited areas on other walls to tie it in.

There is bedding on the market with dots on it to follow through with the dot design plan. Some examples on links below.

Or you could paint a large silhouette of Audrey Hepburn on one wall.
Take a look at this link to see what I mean.

When you follow the links above scroll and click on the other things on the site when you get to them. Many have lots of ideas for you.

Best wishes have fun and make the room about your love for Audrey Hepburn and your personality too.
