Ideas on how to turn a basement into a little place for kids?

Q. I was thinking on creating different spaces for them. A kitchen/dining room, living room, office, and possibly a bedroom area. I was thinking of dividing the "rooms" with king size sheets, hung in a neat manner. Our basement isn't finished or anything (drywall/paint, etc) but is in good enough shape to have a little fun with it. I don't know if I am allowed to paint or put anything on the floor (except carpet...not tacked down) And ideas, thoughts, tips? It doesn't have to be perfect....my little ones are just happy to have a place to play. Budget is small~creativity is limitless. THANKS!

A. A table or old desk for a craft area. Then hang baskets or an old shoe organizer to put craft materials in:glue, paint, brushes, crayons, markers, scissors, glitter, stickers, etc.

Old file cabinet painted a funky color to hold materails like paper and finished projects. you can also hang a clothes line for them to clip paintings on to dry and to display finished works of art!

Maybe in one area, you could put a bunch of thick blankets and floor pillows down for a cozy pallet/nest to nap on.

Not sure how old your kids are or if they are boys/girls, but you could have an area with books, and puzzles, another make believe area with dress up stuff and "props" (umbrella, old high heels, old halloween wigs, feather boa, purses)... I loved to play "kitchen" when I was littel. If they have a play kitchen then when you run out of food, save the boxes/jars/containers for them to play "kitchen" with. Any old plastic dishes you don't use anymore... or if they don't have a kitchen, 2 chairs and table will work! A big box or set of shelves can hold the "food".

Lots of mirrors since I doubt the basement has many windows...Let the kids create the art and frame it in an old frame and decorate with those! You can even create with them and hang your work on the wall too!

What are original ideas for decorating a teenage girl's bedroom?
Q. I'm a 13 year old girl interested in art and music and I need to redecorate my room. It is all pink and little-kid-ish and I'm sick of it. I have a friend who put Christmas lights around the top of her room and I was kind of going for that original style. Any ideas?

A. Hello There,

We all like a nice peaceful retreat and definitely our bedroom is one of those places. I have a 13 year old and we redid her room when she was 12 (last year).

1. We painted her room with silver blue and white (Behr satin finish). Two walls blue, two walls white.

2. We then chose two paintings (from Marshalls) One was a blue hues ocean scene with waves with a white finish frame and the other was a blue painted frame of teenagers playing in the water by the ocean side. It has more light to it. We placed that on the blue wall. We also added a silver oval framed mirror and and rectangular family picture collage frame.

If you really want a string of lights you can hang it along the window.

3. Her bedding is a mixture of different shades of blue, yellow and fuchcia. It is a very peaceful room..

4.We also put a small microwave kitchen cart in her room where she has a terrarium with seashells sitting on top of it. The shelves hold her school supplies. . You can find this at the resource below.

I wish I could show you a picture but it is truly a retreat for her.

This is not an expensive makeover. Follow what we did and choose your own colors. Walmart, Target and Marshalls are all great stores.Discuss it with your parents and
email me if you have any questions.

Happy decorating,

Romona

ADULTS: How do you have your bedroom decorated?
Q. I need decorating tips for my bedroom. We just moved in this home about 2-3 months ago and I haven't decorated the walls yet. I just finished my kids room , so yeah, thanks.

A. I have many decorating tips on my website: ultimatehomedecorstore.com. Decorating your walls (wall art) and using sconces are great ideas.

How can I make my bedroom a Scene kid bedroom?
Q. Well, I'm nowhere as beautiful as the scene girls and boys but i really do like their work :P
and im interested in the style they have, so i really want to know how i can contribute that beauty into my room. I have awhile to paint my room and do stuff to it, my deadline is spring(: so any helpful suggestions would be great. could you show me any pictures? art styles? paint color? something? those would be nice, thank you!

A. Look out for some really cool, vintage furniture pieces at charity stores or whatever, get some really classic, unusual curtains too, or you could make some out of fabric from a fabric store, pick out some that you like which could be black (black would make good curtains).

Get a load of posters of bands you like and stick them up on the walls, depends where you live, but AllPosters.co.uk has a large selection and their prices are quite fair, so you could take a look there.
As for paint, I'd say hot pink - or maybe you could wallpaper one wall - I saw this one scene girl's bedroom and she had hot pink and white striped wallpaper, which looked really cool.

Also, you should hang a load of your clothes off the front of your wardrobe, that can really improve a room. You could get a string of christmas tree lights too and string them up (they'll be cheap this time of year).

I think that would be a good start. Hope I gave you a few ideas :)
