Moving to Cambridge UK from India?

I have a few queries on moving to Cambridge. I would be moving to Cambridge in near future (March 2014 ). For the same I would really appreciate if you could help me with the following:

a.I am moving with my family â wife and a 6 year old kid â what is the good area to look for a house â assuming daily commute to St Ives for work.

b. I am looking for a 2 Bedroom flat - which has common garden etc. My budget is 1500 GBP per month. Is this sufficient to rent in a good area in Cambridge

c.How do I get started with school admissions â can wait till I move there and then start looking for one. Kid will go in to primary school. Currently he is studying in Grade 1 in India.

d.My preference would be a state school â rated outstanding

Everyone's preference is for a school wih an outstanding rating. However, they are usually fully subscribed. The ratings have changed. Many schools that would formally have been rated as "Outstanding" are now "Good"

@ Mich 99. I like and respect your answers. However, this time, I must point out there is a St Ives in Cambridgeshire, too (15 miles from Cambridge)!
