I'm 52 (divorced) & seriously considering moving to the UAE (Dubai or Abu Dhabi) to work?

Q. I will be working as a project manager in the construction industry (salary circa £70K). Can anybody advise me on the cost of living i.e. apartments, cars, food etc.
Also any pitfalls (if any), what packages are available from employers that I need to ask for and information that will make my transfer to a better life easier.
To all those who reply, a big thank you.

A. Here's what to expect in Dubai or Abi Dhabi:

Accomodation:
Biggest headache and so unpridictable. Rising to almost 40% increase every year. For a two-bedroom apartment, consider around PDS 15 to 20K. So ensure that accomodation has to be company provided. Villas with nice little garden and common swimming pool should be around PDS 25K and above.

Normally, the company will provide the following:
1. Health Insurance for self & Family.
2. Return Tickets for Family & Self once a year for 30 days.
3. Educational Allowance for kids.
4. Conveyance Allowance

On top of the above, the normal go for a European Project Manager in Dubai or Abu Dhabi specially for hight rise buildings is circa PDS. 60K minimum.

Remember - it's tax free !!! (No VAT, Income, State, Sales, Federal, Salary, etc, taxis) reasons why a lot of people are driving Porsche, Jaguars, Aston DB7's, Mercedes, BMW, etc in this area - fuel is cheap !!!

A. Hi,

I answered the first part of your question previously. The full answer on the question regarding your parents you'll find by visiting the following link:

1. Working in Abu Dhabi you do not want to live in Sharjah etc. Pick other destinations closer by.
2. Depend on what car you buy.
3. Has to be paid by your employer, so do not worry. Who is suppose to know what kind of health insurance your employer offers?
4. Depends on where you live and what school you pick
5. depends only on yourself
6. see point 5

I always try to be as helpfull as possible, but I can not tell you what kind of money you'll spend on what. That is something that's only in your hands and only you will know.

You might want to check out the daily, where under "expats leaving" you can make good deals on furniture, etc.

Take care.

The most suitable day care for my baby?
Q. I have a kid around 2 1/2 yrs old. He really lacks his kidddish playing and all those kind of enjoyments bcoz me and wife stays with him alone in a two bedroom flat with our mom. Both me and wife are working as well. Now, as this is the time he grows up, he becomes too mischevious bcoz there is no other time pass left for him, although there is all the toys and other facilities we kept for him, in the late evenings, i take him for a walk, too. But, as far as I understood, he like to play with other kids. WE don't want to leave him in a baby sitting..neither we want to know about a nursery with day care facilities near Dubai-Naif area or we welcome a kid to our home with all sincere pledges to look after him as our own in the evenings everyday.. Honestly speaking, we searched in that way a lot but, no result. Kindly advice is there any hope in getting a baby btween 2 1/2 -4 yrs old to play wih my kid, with all the facilities assured, in the evevnings from Saturday-Thursday..?

A. Ask around with friends and family I'm a single parent i was scared to leave my child any where.

Down fall with Day-Cares is other peoples kids get sick you will see the running noises coughing and so on once a child (yours get sick) from another child than it a 50-50 chance you will have to take off work because Day-Cares will not let them come once they get to sick.

Than there's that nasty Head-Lice well i have also walked in Day-Cares and caught them hollowing at children its all sad but ask around like i said.

Now i also would not let my girl go to one that a man work at women only.

A. 1. 120-170k dhs in Dubai for good accommodation, a third less in Sharjah, maybe half.
2. 50k + 2.5k + 7.5k (per year) for good 2nd hand Japanese sedan.
3. 500k-1000k per month
4. 10k-40k per year. See link for transfer details.
5. 3k-5k per month
6. 10k-30k for cheap/medium furniture

Parent sponsorship I think needs a special application to immigration department. Medical cover only if they have residence visa.
