Bedroom ideas please?

I recently obtained my own bedroom. I'm 14 (I know, that fact pushes away a lot of people) and I was thinking about getting a lofted bed to where I'd put my own desk underneath it. All I wanted to know is would that be to little kid-ish? If so, what would I go with other than that (keep in mind my rooms not very big)? Please help and thank you in advance!

I have a loft bed now (I'm 14) and honestly I wish I didnt (even though I get so much extra storage) because it gets annoying with the ladder especially when I drop somethig. It also sucks when you're sick because it's stuffy.

For you I'd either get a regular bed and put it against the wall and shove the desk in the corner.

I lift bed is good if you don't have any other room but I'd go against it

Then for the other 3 walls I want to paint top half green and bottom half white to draw on with sharpies. I want to get wall decals of wires with birds on them and shoes thrown over them. With a black and white bird in cage bedspread. I have black and silver loft bed. Would this be good? Oh and I want a black ceiling and put stars on it to represent my love of harry potter because in Harry potter the grand hall has an open ceiling. Would this be a cool idea?

Like painting the ceiling black. I asked to do that as a kid and got a big fat NO. To get around that, they let me do a dark purple (as if that is any easier to paint over!). Then I put those glow in the dark stars on it. When I turned out the light, it was just like sleeping under the stars! You don't even need to paint the ceiling for that effect! (Plus a black ceiling will make your room seem smaller. Some kind of crazy optical illusion). Or you could find creative ways to make the ceiling black without making it permanent. Like tacking a sheet up there or covering it with black paper. You seem pretty creative, I'm sure you can figure something out!

If they let you do the sharpie thing, then that would be pretty cool. If not, ask if you can get chalk board paint. It comes in lots of colors other than black. Then you can draw til your heart's content, then erase it when you don't like it! (or if you mess up). That way, you can change how your room looks when ever you want, just by erasing your "caulk board".

Bedroom ideas for 3 boys?

My three sons are going to be sharing one bedroom. They are aged 6 1/2, 4 and 4. The bedroom that is going to be theirs is pretty large (14-4tf X 12ft) and has a bathroom and a large closet. Does anyone have any ideas on how to organize and arrange the three kids in one room? I would to give them some space away from each other. Any themes are appreciated as well. Thanks!
I'm going to put this question in the parenting section too, in case anyone has ever been in my situation.

I like the idea of two sets of twin bunk beds, also. In particular, this is better than:

-three separate beds eating all your floor space.
-a double on bottom, twin on top bunk that would sleep all of them now but they can't stay this way for long...how long can two boys sleep together in a double bed?
-a loft-type system that can be dangerous if you don't execute it properly, and expensive if you buy a kit or have it done professionally.
-PLUS you get room for a buddy to sleep over.
-AND you have room for the twins to be at ground level and your older son to be up top like the big boy he is. As they grow up and top bunk is more inconvenient than cool, and anyone can be up there safely, they can rotate the sleeping arrangements.

As for storage spaces, I would say like with the beds, you need to go up where you can. Just don't put things so high that kids can't safely reach and do for themselves. As they get taller and more coordinated you will have more freedom to build up.

I don't know how you feel about individuality and where you draw the lines. I think each kid should definitely be allowed his own things, and personality, of course this is true. But you might consider some things community property to be stored together and shared among them...some of their toys and books and media, more expensive stuff like their TV and game systems and maybe some sports equipment...

One thing I would do if I had three young boys that close in age is extend this principle to socks and maybe even underwear too. I would gather up every one of their current socks and toss them out...and replace them with 50-60 or so pairs of IDENTICAL cheap white socks for them all to share. Keep dirty in the bathroom in a big roughtote or maybe even a kitchen style wastebasket with a swinging lid, labelled boys whites...wash them all together once a week in hot with bleach to keep them sanitary and bright...dump them unfolded into another container for storage of clean. This eliminates the drama of pairing up socks and sorting among people, and the waste if any get ruined or go missing. You might keep another (smaller) collection of identical black dress socks. Clean out and replace everything every year, maybe in the spring when you are spring cleaning and organizing, and when you aren't already saddled with back to school expenses or holiday gifts. This might be a hundred dollars or so expense every year. A small price to pay for such convenience all year. I think you can get at least another five years out of the collective sock arrangement. You might have to abandon the underwear clause a little sooner hahahh.

As for decor, I would go with a larger theme for the room, and each kids personal things...their dresser, their desk, their backpack, can be done in a particular element of that theme to both express themselves and distinguish their stuff. A bit like color coding but a little more descriptive I guess.

Animal themes abound...could do the room in the big theme and each kid decorates their stuff with an animal...you could do farm (duck, goat, horse) pets (dog, cat, hamster) dinosaurs (bronto, stego, pterydactyl) bugs (grasshopper, spider, bee) zoo (zebra, elephant, giraffe) etc. You could do sports...do the room to look like a stadium or locker room or sportscasters studio, or hang jerseys and display sports equipment. Each kid gets a separate team...or same sport, each kid rocks pro-college-their school, or each kid decorates with a different sport. You could do music...album covers or music notes, etc...and each kid gets a different singer or band or rapper, or each kid gets a different instrument. You could do games...decorate with vintage game boards, and get lamps and furniture that resemble game pieces. Each kid could be cards, dominoes, and dice. You could do a cartoon room...each kid decorates with a different cartoon. Or do a Disney room and each kid gets a different character. You could do bright colors and everyone gets a different shape...circles, squares, triangles.

Idea for Painting a BEDROOM Set in DISNEY PRINCESS THEME?

HI guys I had a question, we bought a really nice bedroom set/hutch /desk set for my girls bedroom, and I need ideas on how to paint it in a disney princess theme?

My kids room is painted in lilac/pink with all disney decorations, does anyone have any ideas on what color to paint the bedroom set?

the set is now in all white, it needs to be painted because it has a few scratches, what color do you think will match? any ideas would be appreciated this will be such a fun project for me! Thanks in advance

I have two granddaughters (cousins) that have Princess themed bedrooms. One has antiqued Oak furniture, and we let the wall decorations dictate the theme - her mother and I painted a castle mural on one wall and painted the other three wall lilac.

The other granddaughter has a "castle" loft bed painted white, with a pine dresser that they also painted white to match. We simply added new knobs that I bought from E-bay that depicted a wand, castle, tiara, etc. Each knob is different. We also replaced the knobs on the bi-fold closet door with the same. Her walls are pink and decorated with Disney Princess cameos.

You could spend a thousand if you have a handiman do it for you. Otherwise you can contact the company (send them an email with the photo) and inquire about the price. As the advert is completely in italian, I cant figure out where the prices are listed.
Funny te newspaper stated the french were bad about learning other peoples languages, they dont even bother mentioning the italians.

9 x 7 is really tiny. Your room is the average size of a kids room 114.5 Sq ft. Optimizing space isn't to hard. Do an extra high platform bed with cabinets underneath. Look for people renovating kitchens and selling or tossing their old ones. The top cabinets or bottom make a great base for the bed. Ikea cabinets are 59$ per double door set.

A sheet of MDF on top of the cabinets will hold your mattress and/or boxspring too. Consider furniture you already have and it may work under the loft too.

Tub or no tub in master bathroom?

Q. We'll have tubs elsewhere in the house. A tub always sounds like a great idea, but I honestly have not used our current tub in years. I'd rather have a bigger shower and extra storage space than a tub that will go unused 99.9% of the time. BUT, when we want to sell the house, will potential buyers be turned off by the lack of tub in the master bathroom??

A. Do a fancy shower with glass doors and multiple shower heads, beautiful tile. You could even do a doorless walk-in type. I think you could advertise it as "green" because you would use less water.
Remember, the house is for YOU, not for some person in the future that you have never met. I had this dilemma with taking out the fourth bedroom. (we only have 2 kids, and the 4th was empty space) We took it out, have a window, bookshelves, and a "loft" instead of a dark empty room. However, our house is now a "3 bedroom" but who cares.

A. Help them overcome nighttime fears. Many children want to sleep with parents because they are afraid to sleep alone. They may be afraid of the dark. They may be afraid of "monsters." They may have real issues that are causing fear. Talk to your child to find out why she wants to sleep with you and then arm her with tools that will make her feel secure. This might mean giving her a flashlight, a bottle of monster spray or teaching her a saying that will make her less afraid.

Make his bed and bedroom more desirable than yours. Moms and dads tend to have great big beds that are soft and warm and fun to sleep in. Make your child's bed fun in a way that is unique for him. Do a bit of decorating in exchange for a promise to sleep in his own bed.

I live in a downtown 1000sqft loft & have 1 full bath.would my resell value go if i was to install shower only

Q. I live in a 1000 sq ft loft 1 bedroom in downtown dallas. I currently have a large garden tub and tile walls. It is all white and is about 9 years old and I was wanting to update. I personally prefer a shower only as i am to tall to take a bath. I was considering pulling the tub and installing a nice shower with either dual shower heads or over shower head. I would do a nice tile or travertine?? Any ideas if this would effect resale value as I only have 1 bedroom and 1 bath and the bath is only accesible through the bedroom. Since this is a smaller loft and located in downtown area I would think there would be very few people with kids looking at my unit when i resell? But I am still worried about spending a lot of money on an upgrade and then have trouble selling because of it? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks for the info. I already have upgrade countertops in the bathroom. I have granite and would just like to bring the bath up to par as it is just average.

A. A one bedroom is not going to be purchased by a family so I don't think your upgrade would be a downside to your sale price. But there are people who see that garden tub as a special upgrade and wouldn't throw it away without some thought. Can you open the shower area by doing all glass walls and frameless doors? That would add value and give everyone what they want. I would change the tiles out from white to an interesting tile with listoles all around and upgrade your sinks and counter areas. Check with a realtor about your comparables in your site to make sure you aren't taking on more than you can get a return for. It doesn't cost you anything to do that.
