Decorating ideas for bedroom!?

emily

I have twins, a boy and a girl. They are 6 years old and we are moving to a new house. They will share a large bedroom and I have no ideas on how to decorate it and incorporate their favorite colors (Alana - pink, green and baby blue ; Stephen - red and blue). I really love Pottery Barn Kids, so if you could post some links of furniture, that would be great!

Thanks for all your help!

Answer
Have a "prop closet". Keep all the miscellaneous kid's room decorating items in there, and when you want to freshen your child's room, just remove one group of accessories from their room and replace with another! How easy is that?

you can find some good ideas in my source site.

Can you help with Unisex bedroom ideas?

Melissa

My children will be sharing a bedroom. My son is 6, and my daughter will be 3 this month. Does anyone have any design ideas that will make them both feel at home? I'm a single mom, so budget is a big factor to consider. Thanks for your help!

Answer
Rubber duckies are always cute. My sister's kids' bathroom had a whole makeover just by adding a new shower curtain, toothbrush holder, rug, and framed photo all of rubber duckies. I think she got the stuff at WalMart. I love it for a kids' bathroom.

EDIT: I'm so sorry I misread that and thought it said bathroom.
A cute unisex idea for a bedroom is a jungle theme or even just using coordinating colors on the bedding. A red, white, and blue patriotic theme would be really cute, and easy too. One could have a navy blue comforter and the other could have a red comforter with white sheets. Then you can find all kinds of stars and stripes stuff cheap at thrift stores and again, at WalMart/Kmart/TJ Maxx - whatever you have near you. Good luck!

Ideas for teen girls bedroom?

Megan

My room is painted white with black furniture and pink accents. I have this poster in my room
http://www.posterrevolution.com/gallery/item.cfm?ID=564426&class=1001
and I want my room to go with it but still be fun, seeing as how I'm only seventeen.
I need new bedding. Suggestions?

Answer
Hey,
I've been looking for idea's for my room too,
So far I've only found ones for either adults or little kids -.-
I'm 17 too btw,

You could go for a romantic style bedroom...
Maybe red/pinky colour bedding with gold? that'd go nice something like this

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://bellavitafbg.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/amorbedweb.111201636_std.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bellavitafbg.com/amore_dolce_cottage&usg=__d-FeJwVTdyEkzab9Bg09aHOAv-0=&h=533&w=800&sz=71&hl=en&start=21&zoom=1&tbnid=uZwvACDCl30gIM:&tbnh=109&tbnw=164&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dromantic%2Bbedding%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D717%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C751&um=1&itbs=1&ei=i3efTKa0M5CTjAfOp7mIDQ&iact=rc&dur=429&oei=g3efTJTtBcKRjAfgxLWXDQ&esq=2&page=2&ndsp=32&ved=1t:429,r:30,s:21&tx=133&ty=64&biw=1440&bih=717

you could have black iron candle colders on the wall, with again redy/pinky colour candles, even if you don't use them, they still look nice,

you could have big plush chair your room, or a small sette, or even do what I've done and have huge pink fold out camping chair, with lot's of pillows/cushions on it, could buy cute cushions easy enough, you could keep with the whole romantic theme with going for soft cushions with detal on them or you could get bright colour ones to keep it fun, or ones with captions on/ funny quotes or even cartoons. You could even but a cheap t-shirt with something odd on the frount and cut it up and stich it on the frount of a plain cushion.

(the camping chair I have is actually really comfy + Looks good, to stop the metal legs from showing at the bottom, I've thrown a blanket over it

it looks like this but pink
http://au.alibaba.com/product/264369153-Folding-camping-chair-YH5105.html )

You could have a feature mirror like this

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://littleshopofmirrors.com/wp-content/uploads/wpsc/product_images/dutchivory.jpg&imgrefurl=http://littleshopofmirrors.com/%3Fpage_id%3D3%26category%3D9%26product_id%3D7&usg=__po5b4Uu8TvH_F9FJdP497D-721c=&h=640&w=543&sz=47&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=rzZADneEDY6UMM:&tbnh=139&tbnw=118&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dfeature%2Bmirror%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D717%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=465&ei=jHqfTIq5HJO7jAeapIX3DA&oei=jHqfTIq5HJO7jAeapIX3DA&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=31&ved=1t:429,r:17,s:0&tx=66&ty=69

or even a gold one to tie in with the bedding?

you could have photo's of you and your friends or things out of magasines wedged in the corners of the mirror,

You could get a another poster to match the one you've already got, or even have a cluster of posters in your room

you could have a rug, to make things look cosy

Oh, and I advise getting lots of knick nacks
jewelry holders out on the side with things dangling off it

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://images.etsy.com/all_images/7/73e/a42/il_430xN.14266973.jpg&imgrefurl=http://sinthesiscm.blogspot.com/&usg=__6un-XuquItXjwThk2UvVJLflvlY=&h=338&w=430&sz=47&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=qLgloyzVsGUQqM:&tbnh=138&tbnw=176&prev=/images%3Fq%3Djewelry%2Bholders%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D717%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=333&ei=mXufTNbRHZDKjAfEy-z6DA&oei=mXufTNbRHZDKjAfEy-z6DA&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=36&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=57&ty=60

That's kinda cute

Or you could have jewelry boxes/ other boxes around your room, just odd little things,

Oh, and for at night time, you could buy some pink fairy lights, it sounds childish but they make your room seem so cosy, it really pulls everything together, to keep in with the romantic theme why don't you get flower ones, something like this

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/stormsites/gandg/images/products/XAN7765_M1.jpg%3Flc%3Den-GB%26lv%3D3&imgrefurl=http://www.hearthofthehome.co.uk/2010/05/fairy-lights-for-your-fireplace/comment-page-1/&usg=__sVfSl2keQa423F-2M-wjakqE3Yo=&h=450&w=450&sz=40&hl=en&start=90&zoom=1&tbnid=r7YmxT4X2HluHM:&tbnh=129&tbnw=148&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpink%2Bfairy%2Blights%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D717%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C1686&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=885&vpy=201&dur=32&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=174&ty=113&ei=VnyfTJi6GJm8jAf--7CYDQ&oei=IHyfTI37EcK7jAfKrs2dDQ&esq=5&page=4&ndsp=32&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:90&biw=1440&bih=717

I hope I've helped,
also sorry about the crappy spelling/punctuation, I usually type alot better, but I'm ill, I feel like death and I really can't be arsed.

Bedroom ideas for teenage boy?

Husain Imr

Ok I would like some ideas for a room remodel for a teen boy. My room is quite small about enough to fit 3 full beds. It's a square shape room. I guess I need a color tht makes it look bigger. Also some things I like are:
- a modern look like the apple stores
- white accents
- soccer
-traveling
- hard work
- religion
- clean organized desk and room together
I am also going to put in cherry wood laminated flooring for a fact if that helps. Thanks

Answer
for more space, what about a metal loft bed with work desk under it
http://kidsthemebedrooms.com/shared-bedrooms/decorating-shared-bedrooms-for-boys.html
also a picture here with the loft bed and red accents
http://boysthemebedrooms.com

paint the walls a very light grey, and accent with black, white and a splash of red chrome decorations, maybe some soccer ball wall decals bouncing around the walls or a socer ball beanbag

Is it okay to mix dark-wood furniture with light (white) furniture in a child's bedroom?

My son, who is 2 1/2, has a space themed room (mainly shades of blue). His bed is an espresso color, and I am looking to buy a dresser for him. I could buy a white dresser and paint the drawers blue or add space-themed decals to it, but I am not sure if it would clash with his dark-colored toddler bed? Ideas/suggestions?

Answer
Mixing and matching can definitely work, it just depends how you go about it.

I would suggest leaving color off of the furniture. Keeping it a neutral color (like white or brown), you don't have the hassle of having to repaint when you want to change color scheme / décor again. Space themed decals are great! They add to the theme, but can always be removed later.

I do suggest getting some espresso knobs that match the bed and adding those to the dresser (if it has knobs). This room mixes espresso and white rather elegantly. https://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=dark+borwn+and+white+furniture+childrens+room&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.44770516,d.b2I&biw=1366&bih=599&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=o8JfUbjMF4KYqgHAzoGgDw#imgrc=dtYighXwrr_uGM%3A%3BsMQvWjruONGcoM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.home-designing.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2012%252F02%252FBrown-red-white-small-kids-room.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.home-designing.com%252F2012%252F02%252Fspace-saving-designs-for-small-kids-rooms%3B1500%3B1072

The bookshelves match the brown accents on the furniture, which really ties the décor together.

Good luck! :)

How much would it cost to build my clay house idea?

RaeRae

I live in Northeast Alabama and here we have a lot of red clay (well really it's orange but anyway) I mean it's everywhere. My fiance and I were talking about building a house. Well I got the idea what about making a house out of clay. Well it would have to be at least two-story with 5 bedrooms because we talking about have 4 kids. (yikes I know) And at the least 3 bathrooms. And 3000 square feet maybe? But I was wondering how much would it cost to do that? Clay is easy to get so it shouldn't be that much, right?
Another thing we have places where they have mined and the clay is heavy exposed.

Answer
Ask someone who _really_ knows about that kind of stuff - preferrably someone who already built several of those houses and knows all the little tricks and pitfalls you won't find anywhere written down but only realise while (or after) building such a house for yourself.

Otherwise, expect to build at least two of these houses - the first one to learn how you shouldn't do it....

That said, I won't think that this would be significantly cheaper than a regular structure. You'll (probably' still have to follow all applicable codes (structural integrity, water/waste water, electrical wiring) and will have additional trouble explaining everything to bored officials that neither know nor care what you're talking about.

In addition, I only know clay as insulating/wall material. You'll still need a load-bearing structure (most probably wood) underneath and for the upper floor.

Around here, clay houses are of the more expensive kind, no matter the availability of the raw material. Basically because they're non-standard and only a few people know how to do them right.

Can some one help me with color scheme ideas?

Enrique

I already cleaned my room as much as possible and I still just don't like it .Does anyone have and ideas for a good color scheme the floor is white tile with white lines .I was going to go with navy blue but I want a more happy lighter color.i want the room to look nice because the walls are crappy and none of the colors of the room match.i think we might get the lines done black thanks.

Answer
How about having 3 of your walls a light grey - something like this:

http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/metallicsilver

And, one wall - your feature wall - where the bed goes - in something like this blue:

http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/alfresco

And... then add blue, grey and white bedding - say perhaps something like this:

http://www.target.com/p/room-essentials-rugby-stripe-comforter-set-blue/-/A-13359051#prodSlot=medium_1_7

And... put some wall art on your walls - and if you want to add a bit of 'pop' to your room - you could add a red cushion on your bed and perhaps a red shade on a chrome base bedside lamp. The art can be in reds, blues and whites. Perhaps something like this graffiti if you like it if not think of something else i.e. you could buy some cheap art on-line or buy some artists canvases and have a go yourself:

http://pinterest.com/graffiti4hire/kids-bedroom-graffiti/

And... perhaps buy either a blue or red rug for the side of your bed?

Hope this helps:)

How to combine these things in a bedroom?

Jasmien

I want to change my bedroom into something more personal. I want it game themed. I would love ideas on how to combine pokemon, minecraft, bioshock, portal and some other games. I have some artistic skills so DIY ideas are welcome. I'm 17. So of course I need to avoid it looking childish. Thanks in advance.

Answer
I would stick to a few colors so that your room looks more put together. Take posters, 3 different ones from say pokemon, have them in in black or white or in black background with just the characters in color, then have them in different sized squares, mount them on a wall just about your shoulders so that they are an inch apart from each other. below are some photos that might help you out.

Any ideas for a vintage chic bedroom?

Q. I'm 14 and moving house soon. When I decorate my room, I want it really different and chic. I like 'vintage' style things, such as urban outfitter themed decor. I don't want a huge amount of pink. I like the idea of blues. I want one wall to be bright and the others plain. I like things clean cut and simple. Does anyone have any interesting colour themes that i could use or just any tips overall?

Answer
WOW.. i'm impressed! U'r 14 & u know what u what. Not too many do. So when u'r talking the "urban outfitter" I'm not quite sure where u'r heading. R u heading for the 50-60's look or what? As far as blues... for the 50-60 look u can go w/ blu/gr or gr/bl almost like turquoise. IF u WANT the pink, then put PINK tones as in pillows/frames/lamps things like that. I did my friend's 2 grls rooms but they wanted something brighter but I used mocha br along w/ pink & pinky/blu... it really came out kewl. The trends back then were 50's more pink/turquoise/black/white/red then moved into the turquoise/orange/browns/lime greens. I would love to help u if u want to e me. good room color ideas for a 17 year old male?

Matthew Pa

my parents are letting me paint my room but i dont know what color i want to paint it. i love the color red but i know that if i just painted my room red it would make it way to dark. does anyone have any ideas on what color to mix the red with?

Answer
Gray goes great with red.Paint your room a gray and red bedding and/or accessories.
http://www.google.com/search?q=gray+and+red+bedrooms&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&rlz=1I7ADRA_enUS359&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=7cW4UfmoDJKD0QHpg4B4&ved=0CCwQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=656
Although this site shows kids, this big black dots bedding works wonderfully for almost everyone.
Try it with one wall behind your bed painted red.
Use a red blanket if you like.A little red goes a long way.
Your other walls can be a sand color or white or a light gray.
Enjoy decorating.

How to decorate my new duplex retro style?

kids bedroom ideas red
on Green Paint Colors, Cheerful Ideas for Painting Kids Rooms
kids bedroom ideas red image

smashedgui

im getting a duplex in a couple of months and i wanna decorate it with a retro vibe to it..only problem is im on a budget and alot of things retro and vintage are very expensive.I can't paint the walls so im stuck with white walls. theres 3 bedrooms and 2 baths
50s 60s style...and incorporate music since ima musician

Answer
"Vintage" doesn't have to mean expensive. Hit the thrift stores. Look for fabrics you can use to make pillows for the sofa, curtains, or table covers. Use table covers to make curtains. Mix it up.

As for being stuck with white walls, use poster frames from the dime stores to frame large blocks of fabric...colors limited only by the fabric or paper you find. You could frame a polka-dot in one, a solid of the same color in another, stripes in a third, and a paisley print in the fourth, then hang them all in a row for a color statement. Or do 4 blocks of solids, then use the prints for table covers, curtains, and pillows.

Retro means different things to different people. To some, it's 50's red and white and black, to others it might mean totally 70's. Just let the fabrics you find lead you.

(An old chenille bed spread with panels on it was cut up on a "kids room" design show I saw recently. She used some of the panels for pillows and some of the spread to make a bed-skirt. It was cute, and very retro if your idea of retro was 1940!)

I have an old gas furnace (1965) should I replace it?

Fizzlewig

I just bought a new home, the realtor said as long as the furnace is working don't worry about it. But 1965 is pretty darn old. How do I know if its time to replace it? Also, I always seem to notice a very faint gas smell just around the furnace itself - the gas company just serviced the furnace so i imagine its okay but it has be a bit worried as the furnace is near my kid's bedrooms. thoughts?

Answer
Ok 1st thing, if you think you have a gas leak, call whoever your gas co is, as a public utility they are obligated to come out. If it is unsafe they will red-tag it, and shut it off. Recall the PSA commercials, we've all seen them. 2nd item, you said the furnace was looked at by the gas co.? In that case, they would not have certified an unsafe unit, it's too obvious if it's unsafe (see carbon-monoxide poisoning). If something is found that should have been disclosed, you will have recourse, definitely contact your agent if necessary. Now the other side of the equation, it's an old unit and probably doesn't have electronic ignition, so it has a pilot. This can cause a slight gas odor because it doesn't burn 100%. Where is your water heater in relation to the furnace? Close I'd imagine. The water heater will also leave some unburned gas when it starts up. There really is no reason that the furnace shouldn't work, they built them pretty well back then, and heat exchangers generally come with a 30 year warranty. If efficiency is a large issue, there are numerous less expensive ways to help your home out (seal, caulk, weatherstrip etc.). The bottom line if the furnace is safe.... Can you afford a new one? If so, then it's probably not a bad idea, especially because you just moved there. Nice not to have to worry.

Final note: If you really think you have a gas leak, then open windows (natural gas is combustible between 7-14% gas to oxygen), and call the gas co. tonight. They are there 24/7.

Good luck!
