Ideas for my daughter's bedroom?

emp2046

Hi! My daughter is in the 6th grade. We are redecorating he room. It's a bit small. We have a desk with drawers, a beareau with a hutch and drawers, and her bed, a twin. She has book shelves and in between those a window with a window sill. She hates it so much but she wants to keep the furniture. She also has a THOUSAND books and doesnt want her room to be a library her whole life. I need ideas! I'm so bad with tis stuff! Shedoesn't even know what she wants! Any suggestions?

Answer
I am pretty sure you are the child who wants the new room decor .
That said, I suggest you look at JC penny's teen bedding.
The bedding is the first thing to check out.
http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/X3.aspx?DeptID=59474&CatID=59488&cmCatLevel=3&CmCatId=59474|59488|59538
Overstock also has wonderful bedding :http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Cosmo-Girl-Pretty-in-Pink-3-piece-Comforter-Set/4079082/product.html
I love that one. Look at the light brown on the walls too. It's very modern and has lasting appeal.
Pick a complementary wall color after the bedding.
Please don't paint any walls bright lime green.Keep it lovely and simple.

As for your books, I know how hard it is to give them away. You can recycle most of them to a shelter or Salvation army.Keep your very favorites.
Pick out some cute accessories as you find them.no need to rush.
Have fun decorating.

bedroom theme ideas with details on how to carry them through for my children...?

moi

this bedroom is for a 1 year old boy, 5 year old girl and 10 year old girl...
I have 5 children total so yes those 3 will be sharing a room until I can afford to get another room or 2 built on to the house.
I'm just looking for ideas for the room, not opinions on how I'm doing things, thank you...

Answer
I would pick a general color scheme and stick to things everyone likes or can tolerate. I'd avoid cartoon charecters unless everyone agrees.

Here are some cute examples of shared rooms:

Cute website/pictures of bedroom/living room ideas?

half_pint2

I'm moving into a new apartment in July. It's a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment, fairly decent size living room and kitchen. My bedroom colors right now are black/red/white, which I absolutely love. I wouldn't mind keeping those colors in the bedroom but something different would be fine too! I'd like to have the kitchen and living room sort of match since they are side by side.... I've got a friend who custom makes fabric valances for above the window, as well as headboards. I'm up for any options. i'd like to keep it modern, nothing too rich, nothing too child-ish either. I'll be a senior in college and plan on keeping this apartment for at least 3 more years for grad. school. so I want some ideas that I won't get completely sick of, or something that I can easily "upgrade" if you know what I mean. Thanks so much for your help, I know there are some extremely creative people out there who have more time on their hands than me lol. I plan on spending a week prior to move-in painting, decorating and all that! So spill your ideas (including themes, new bedspreads, paint colors, ALL THAT JAZZ!!!) Thanks SO much!!!!

Ps. Some of my favorite stores to shop at for home decor are Target, Ikea, Pottery Barn, Kirklands, Pier 1, etc....

What Are some good ideas for Persuasive topics that are fascinating for one to learn about. I need new ideas, not same old stories! Thank you so much!

Answer
Persuade/Convince your audience to take a stance against school burn out:
--SCHOOL BURN-OUT: This controversial issue is concerning the amount of school-related activities and requirements teens face now in high school & how that often leads to "school burn-out." Faced with an unlimited amount of choices combined with the pressure of a fast-paced-world, teens are spreading their selves too thin by engaging in a number of commitments. Besides physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion, there are several more pressing consequences of school burn-out. Persuade your audience to evaluate this issue.

Persuade/Convince your audience to oppose yellow journalism:
--YELLOW JOURNALISM: Media for many people are a source of information on topics and news. But the current trend has showed how sensationalism in journalism is becoming widespread. These sensational and scandalous stories are called "Yellow Journalism," which is journalism that exploits, distorts, or exaggerates the news to create sensations and attract readers or viewers. Tired of news on TV that exploit other people's misfortunes? Persuade your audience on why it is unethical for journalists to make money from stories on victimizations, scandals, natural disasters, deaths, and war?

Persuade your audience to value:
-- PLAY – What’s It Good For?
Several studies over the past decade have looked at the effects of play deprivation and found that an absence of play in supportive, positive contexts can create violent, antisocial, mentally impaired and emotionally sterile adults. In one study, about 95% of the convicted murderers who were examined reported either the absence of play as children or illogical, brutal, abnormal play such as bullying, sadism and extreme teasing. In the same study, around 75% of drunk drivers who were examined reported play abnormalities. The play that builds children’s physical, social, cognitive and affective development does not happen in front of a video game after school or when a child is alone in her bedroom watching TV and instant messaging a friend. Good play is play that involves physical activity, creativity, spontaneity, exploration and social interaction. It engages the body in fine and gross motor development and the mind in negotiations, autonomous thinking, problem solving, imagination and flexibility.

All of the following topics could be formatted into a persuasive essay topic:

--Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People behave differently when they wear different clothes. Do you agree that different clothes influence the way people behave? Use specific examples to support your opinion and persuade your audience.
--Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? There is nothing that young people can teach older people. Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.
--Many people have a close relationship with their pets. These people treat their dogs, birds, cats, or other animals as members of their family. In your opinion, are such relationships healthy? Why or why not? Argue your point to persuade your audience.
--Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? High schools should allow students to study the courses that students want to study. Argue your point.
--When famous people such as actors, athletes and rock stars give their opinions, many people listen. Do you think we should pay attention to these opinions? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
--Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Classmates are a more important influence than parents on a child’s success in school. What is your opinion?
--Do you agree or disagree with the following statements? Modern technology is creating a single world culture... OR... Telephones and email have made communication between people less personal. Persuade your audience to agree with your viewpoint.
--Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Persuade others of the viewpoint you agree with.
--Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A zoo has no useful purpose. What is your opinion? Persuade your audience to agree with your viewpoint.
--People recognize a difference between children and adults. What events (experiences or ceremonies) make a person an adult? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

What are some really good ways to go green?

{Lost in N

I already turned off everything in my bedroom, planted ten trees, I don't take any longer than 15 minute showers, I raised salmon...Any other Ideas? Oh and I recycle as much as possible. Thanks!

Answer
Going green is easy, there are so many great resources about the subject. My personal favorite is "The Green Book" which has parts of its book online as well at www.readthegreenbook.com.

As I have been striving to "Go Green" I realize it is like stepping back in time without getting rid of my modern conveniences. I'm doing many things I learned as a child, like line drying my clothes, sweeping instead of vacuuming, opening the windows in the morning to catch the cool breeze, only buying what I need instead of everything that looks cool, growing some of my own food, and canning what I can't eat now.

To me "going Green" is a frame of mind. Do what fits your lifestyle and do the easy things first, it is a process and like dieting if you go to radical to soon, you are more likely to go back to bad habits. I also believe there are good, better, best choices in most things. If you aren't ready to start a home garden, then try finding a farmers market, until you locate one look for produce grown as close to home as possible and go organic when available.

Many people think "going green" is expensive, I disagree. Some changes may take an initial investment, but they usually have a short payoff time. Things like weatherstiping and insulation cost, but the energy savings will add up quickly. You may need to purchase reusable bags, but most stores give you a 5 or 10 cent credit, so you are paid back within a few months.

My top tips are make your home more energy efficient, that also means using natural light, cooling and heating.

Reduce your packaging, if you eat more fresh food you will generally reduce packaging, it's the same thing they tell dieters, shop the perimiter, that is where all the meat, dairy and produce are located. Only buy what you will use, many Americans throw away a lot of unused food. Buy in bulk, that doesn't just mean large packages, but that area with the bins that you buy only what you plan on using.

Replace disposable items with durable items, if you eat outside often and use disposable paper or plastic plates, it is a wise investment to purchase a set of reusable plastic plates. Replace disposable razors, diapers and cleaning products like swiffer. Avoid bottled water, get a home filter like Pur or Brita.

Recycle, www.earth911.org will help you locate the nearest recycle center. I try to only purchase plastics that are #1 or #2, they are more easily recycled. I also buy recycled products when available, that includes paper towels, napkings, toilet paper, tissue, school/office supplies and clothing.

Detox your cleaning, vinegar and baking soda clean almost anything, they can even losen a hair clog. Seventh Generation and Method are a couple mainstream brands that are very earth friendly.

Just start small and build from there, don't get overwhelmed.

They need to be entertained, or they get bored? :p

BQ: What would you do if you suddenly had a month off from ALL responsibilities (including cooking/cleaning)? Would you get bored?
Please answer the BQ?
Why does only the Prozac Popper get that IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BQ!!!
Geez, wasn't that obvious enough?

Answer
Probably or it has just been ingrained in their head for so long that we are all depressed, unhappy and bored.

I would love not to have chores for a month!!! I would work out everyday (I work out everyday anyways), read books, go outside and get a tan, practice photography and play on the internet!!

But chores are pretty easy with modern technology (the only problem is a preschooler thinking the living room is an extension of her bedroom and food being spread all over the floor after every meal). I have a dishwasher and clothes washer and with WIFI internet technology I can bring the laptop into the kitchen. I still hang clothes up to dry unless it's raining or I need to do an emergency load of laundry at night.

About to buy a house, want to add pool...how will that affect my home's resale value in the future?

qwerty

I will be closing on a house very soon and really want to build a pool. I've read conflicting arguments about pools adding or detracting from resale values. What's the low down? I plan to live there 6-7 years or until the real estate market becomes strong again (I'm getting an incredible deal on the home because of the obvious economic problems right now).
I live in Dallas, TX is this helps anyone.

Answer
Since your not planning on staying forever, what you really have to do is consider your market. When you go to sell, what kind of people are going to be interested in buying your particular kind of house. Consider size, layout, stairs, area all of those types of things. Aside from the price what attracted you to it? If your house is the kind of house that would appeal to couples with children especially young teenagers its probably a good idea, but don't forget the cost of running a pool can be high especially if its heated so i would consider a nice modern design but keep it on the smaller side. The bigger they are the more work required to maintain them also more cost in chemicals and heating which can turn people off. However, if your house would appeal to an older couple say single level, less bedrooms in an area that would appeal to retirees etc. I would not recommend a pool as that will definitely turn off older buyers. Good luck :)

A question that has to do with the victorian era, 19th century?

children bedroom ideas modern image

Q. i have to write about religious pictures in the bedrooms of the early 1900's. aka, victorian era. and i cant really find anything on the religious pictures, so if you know anything about it can you tell me some info?
or if you know any really good sites that talk about the religious pics inside the bedrooms, thats would be so helpful!
thanks soo much, 10 points!

Answer
If I were doing this assignment, I'd go to: http://www.encore-editions.com/victorianart.htm.

Look through the art. You'll get a good idea of the type of art of the Victorian Era and there will be religious pictures in the group.

Don't get distracted by where the picture may have hung. You'll know by looking at them if someone might have put it in his or her bedroom... or more importantly, in their children's bedrooms.

The Victorian Era changed the way we thought about children. It started the idea that childhood was innocent and children should be protected from the harsh realities of life. It's quite fascinating in the context of social attitudes. Up until this time, the European tradition viewed children as wild little hellions that must be subdued. It was not uncommon for street children to receive death sentences for theft or other petty crimes. If you have read, "A Modest Proposal," (http://art-bin.com/art/omodest.html,) for which it's author was imprisioned, you know that this was written as a satire to point out how badly children were treated and what a sad plight they had. It might be said that this was the era that gave us our modern ideas about 'social reform,'

From: http://www.erasofelegance.com/history/victorianarts.html
"The Victorian era corresponds with the reign of Queen Victoria in England from 1839 to 1901. The period is beloved for its attention to high morals, modesty and proper decorum, as inspired by the Queen and her husband, Prince Albert. The Victorian era was also an optimistic time in which scientific and industrial invention thrived. Developments in printing produced a proliferation of Victorian scrap art, cards, and magazines. The importance placed on civic conscience and social responsibility engendered notable developments toward gender and racial equality, such as the legal abolishment of slavery in America. In addition, humanitarian and religious organizations such as the Salvation Army reflected the Victorian concern for the poor and needy of the period. "

You might read through this description of a Victorian Art show at BYU :http://moa.byu.edu/fileadmin/moa/user_files/00TRANSFER/Exhibits/Press_Releases/victorian_release.pdf It gives some insights.

I hope this is helpful.

What are some good pop duets for a soprano girl/tenor boy? Preferably modern (Like No Air, Superhuman, etc)?

Q. A friend and I are looking for a bunch of awesome pop/r&b duets to play around with! Or anything great from popular musicals, oldies but goodies, even a great opera duet would be fun. Does anyone have ideas for what would be fun and dynamic? The vocals can be challenging, we can handle it!

What affect does tv, media and society have on the modern american family?

Answer
This is how television portrays the modern american family:

1. They live in an 3 bath, 3 bedroom home.
2. They live in a friendly, children safe neighborhood.
3. They live in or around the city.
4. It consist of a mother, father, son, and daughter.
5. The mother stays with the kids at the house.
6. The father works.
7. They make around 350,000 a year.
8. They intend to put their children through college

But in reality, the average american family simply makes it by every month by the skin of their teeth. It's not the luxury life as portrayed by the media.
