I am looking for neat ideas to redo my 10 year old daughter and 6 year old son's bedrooms. They are ready for a change. Please no responses on getting contractors or interior designers. We are looking for something that we can do ourselves that is neat and will help with the clutter of everyday kids rooms. Homemade storage or accessories welcome. Thanks a bunch.

Okay---first things first. When redecorating a bedroom, one should always pick out the bedding first, prior to painting. Then you pull the colors from your comforter, sheets, etc. to decide on colors for your walls, and additonal fabrics such as those found in your drapes, pillows, etc. But--since you have already painted the walls first, you will need to back track a little. Not a big deal--we can fix this. Go back to the paint store and pick out paint chips that are those of the paint that you had selected. Next, decide on what style or theme you want their rooms to convey--and go shoppng! Look for bedding in the style, theme, and paint colors (make sure you have your paint chips in hand) . Believe it or not, the best places to buy children's bedding is Sears and J C Penney. I am in interior design and I shop at those two places all the time. For a fun and updated look, make sure sure you add a secondary color and an accent color, that you scatter throughout the room (in decorations, wall hangings, pillows, toys, etc). For the purple, try adding another shade of purple as well a a pale yellor or pale pink. For the army green, try adding a light blue, a goldenrod yellow, or even brown. Also, if you need a little more inspiration--check out Pottery Barn for Kids---they have some awesome ideas that you can duplicate to fit into your budget. Be creative, Have fun, and Good Luck!
