How should i redo my bedroom?

Q. My bedroom now is all purple from when i was little. My sister just re-did hers and it has brown walls, maroon and brown metallic comforter, light brown curtains and a brown rug. I really like the bohemian theme but i don't want it to be too similar to my sister's room. I defiantly don't want it to be anything like a little kid room (what i have now) but I cant spend too much money on my room. Any tips?

A. Find the comforter you like and go from there...

This is my standard answer for choosing colors:

Find a printed fabric that you like (a tie, a shirt, etc.) that has the color(s) of the item you want to enhance/match. The other colors in the print will work well for anything else in the room. Pull one of the brighter colors of the print for accessories.

For those with young kids, what kind of floors do you have and would you recommend them or not?
Q. My daughter is now 2 and I have a 2 month old. We currently have carpet and it is awful looking because my daughter is constantly spilling stuff. Do you like your floors with young kids? Are they easy to clean up? If you have laminate wood do they stain, etc? I also have a dog so if you have a pet please discuss it too.
I was considering either laminate wood (real hardwood is too expensive) or stained concrete. Any pros or cons you know of would be great.

A. We've got laminate and tiles in the kitchen and bathroom. We have on bedroom with a carpet and I can't wait to get rid of it.We have had our flooring for over 3 years it doesn't stain but we do have a couple of chips here and there. The laminate in the bedroom keeps better as it has less use and knocks but the one in the living room and hallway still looks in good condition.I can see it lasting many years. We have carpet on the stairs too we've had it just over three years it needs changing.
Laminate and tiles are easy to clean we have a dog and her hairs seem to knit themselves into the carpet somehow even though she isn't allowed upstairs her hairs still get up there!
I do think carpets are better for babies knees when they are crawling and a softer place to land if they fall but then again you can keep hard floors cleaner and you could always use a big rug for comfort.
The kids have laminate in their bedroom and they have three little cotton rugs I put in the washing machine every couple of weeks.

At My wits end! How to get these kids to respect their belongings?
Q. I have twins, 7 year old girls. They'll be 8 in Dec. Anyway, we were fortunate enough until last year to give them just about everything that a couple of little girls could want. They have a ton of toys, video games, movies, and even have 2 computers in their bedroom. They have a hamster in their room as well.

Anyway, we are not so fortunate now as my husband lost his job. The girls have always abused their personal belongings. I want them to have nice things , so I replace them. They continually trash their room putting hamster food and water in their kitchen set and in their rug. They constantly have papers and toys all over the floor. Their dolls are colored on. Their dvd collection only half works because they just throw the dvds on the floor or wherever when they're done watching them. I put them to bed and when I go in their room to check on them, I find them sneaking back over to the bed.

A. First and foremost, they are children being children.

Second, spank their asses.

Third, take all of their things away and then give it back gradually as they EARN them.

Fourth, you're probably too late. Should have taught them how to respect their belongings when they were 3. Now whatever you do, they'll think you're an evil, awful, hateful step parent.

Have a blast.

How should I decorate my kids room a boy and girl 9 and 11?
Q. they both share a room its the master bedroom ...what colors, patterens, divide it into a girl and boys room

A. Personally, I think that 9 to 11 is a huge jump, maturity wise, especially with girls. She's probably starting to think about boys and friends and clothes, etc, and the boy is still a "little kid". It's important that you divide the space A: she's on the verge of becoming a teen and needs her own space to have privacy and escape and RELAX (i'm sure they love each other a lot but also get on each other's nerves) & B: once girls and boys start to mature it's better if they have separate bedrooms. You could definately divide the room up in a cool way. You could go to pottery barn for example, or somewhere similar, and buy some sheers with the cable system: (maybe in white or something neutral)
http://www.pbteen.com/products/p2496/?pkey=cwindow-curtains-drapes-sheers
or you could buy some room dividers (like the folding screens)
a "central space" is also an option. (a lounging, hanging out neutral space) Here you could have a pink floor chair and a blue, you could buy a different, more gender neutral rug, buy some girlier lamps for her, some wall decals for him, just mixing and matching. http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmlng/thmlngffb/
Or you could make their study space on the dividing line. And make it reflect both your little girl and little boy.http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmstu/thmstusbs/ (of course these are just starting points, you can always change things up)
If you cleanly divided the room, in the center, where the dividing (invisible of course) line is, you could put a couch and a rug and a tv, or their desks and a rug, or a long dresser that has her drawers on one side, his on the other, etc. you get the idea.
Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen are both great magazines that have wonderful ways of decorating rooms. They are also a great way to look for inspiration or cool ways of doing rooms. Take a look at their websites, and call for a catalog to brouse through for ideas. :) www.potterybarnkids.com & www.pbteen.com. Talk to your kids about how they might want their space to look. They each have the'r own preferences, hobbies- maybe she like dancing and he likes the ocean, etc etc. They probably both have great ideas... If you do decide that you just DON'T want divided rooms, you want them to share, take a look at this:

You could always choose basic furnature, and have each pick out their own bedspreads, rugs, (little things)
Whatever
