Any ideas on decorating her room?

Q. So my great grandmother is coming to live with us and I'm in charge of getting the room ready.

I need:

-Patterns
-A theme
-A complete new bedroom suit

Have any ideas? (colors, types of wood, etc.)

I want the room to look pretty open. (make sense?) She's coming from virginia if that helps any. I don't want the colors to get easily dirty but i dont want to get dark colors.

A. If you need ideas for the walls. You can put an expression of some kind. I am an independent demonstrator for Uppercase Living and we sell decorative vinyl expressions for every room of the home. They apply right to the wall. They have inspirational sayings, sayings for the master bedroom, kids, teens, garage, living room, kitchen. Some will make you laugh, some might make you cry. There is something for every ones personality. Check out my website. Go to products and go from there. Make sure you check out the about me page and copy and paste the specials in the tool bar. We have great specials for January and February. If you have any questions, send me an email from my website and I'll get back with you. They are available in over 30 colors.

We are planning a family vacation in Gatlinburg Tn for the 4th of July?
Q. Any ideas on where to stay? Things to do? Things that you found to be a waste of money?

A. My family has been many times. Don't fall prey to all the Ripley's museums. Definite things to do: Dollywood Theme Park, Dixie Stampede (need reservations), and the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. The car route thru Cades Cove is awesome and you may see deer, raccoons, bear. Go the the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce website and have them send you info. You will get tons of stuff on entertainment, hotels, etc. Try to get a hotel near Traffic light 8 or 9. (Everything in Gatlinburg is located by finding the traffic lights) If you don't stay too far off the parkway, you won't have to drive, just walk. Oh, yes, Ober Gatlinburg...Ride the sky tram up....awesome view and experience. There is ice skating rink, go carts, etc. up there. If you have a large family, (my hubby and I have 6 kids!!) Try Baskins Creek Rentals and have a look at their townhouses. We got ours for $179 a night...3 bedrooms, 3 full baths, kitchen living room, screen porch, garage, washer/dryer. They have several on their site and you can click on them to view. Baskins Creek also handles cabin rentals and such. Gatlinburg is our favorite place and I hope your family finds it just as wonderful.

What should I get my boyfriend for Valentine's Day?
Q.

A. I love these types of questions.

Be creative! Valentine's day is not like Christmas where you have to give actual presents, it's about showing your love for your significant other.

Here are some ideas:

- Mail a week's worth of valentine cards to arrive during the 7 days before valentine's day.

- Fill his sink with little kids valentine cards so when he wakes up in the morning he will go to the sink and not be able to run the water until he reads some of these cards- or moves them.

- Write I Love You with soap on his mirror so when he wakes up he will see this

- Write a love letter & mail it to arrive on Valentine's Day. Mark it "Personal & Confidential" real big on the envelope. Talk about your feelings.

- Rent a stretch limo stocked with champagne & hors d'oeuvres to take him to dinner when he least expects it- sometime during Valentine's week.

- Visit a local art museum slone, learn about the works with romantic themes, and bring your boyfriend back for a personal tour.

- Go for a mystery ride to an unannounced destination. Keep your boyfriend guessing until you arrive at a favorite beach, ice cream palour, restaurant, theater, sport game, coffee shop, or ice skating/ roller skating rink, etc.

- Fill his whole bedroom closet, garage, coat closet, car, drawer, bathroom cabinet, linen closet, etc. with balloons.

Hope this helps you. Have fun!

How many toys is too many?!!! HELP!!!?
Q. I have 4 kids, 3 boys and 1 girl. boys are ages 6,4,and 1. girl is about to turn 3. Too many toys! how do i choose what to keep and what to get rid of? and how many to keep?

A. I'm about to have my 4th, my oldest is 5, and I understand your situation. My husband always complains about the toys. They seem to be reproducing in my playroom. Anyway, at birthdays I let the kids open all the presents, but only take a few favorites out of the box. At Christmas I stick to a theme, and limit my purchasing because the grandparents always over do it. Always, throw away anything that is broken or missing pieces. When adding toys to the collection, I always take a few and pack them away in the garage for later. When the kids are bored with everything in the house I take out a old toy or open a new one, and of course pack one away. Only have out enough toys, so that cleaning up is something the kids can do without much assistance. Also, have a place for everything. I have a specific tray, box, or see-through plastic container for every type of toy. It keeps the space where most of the toys are organized and neat looking. Additionally, sorting toys helps build math skills so there is reason behind the madness of keeping the toys straight. Get rid of them if they begin to collect dust. That's a sure sign the kids are not interested in the toy any more. I wouldn't set a number of toys to keep, I think its all about what you and your kids can control. I think big toy boxes are a bad idea. Daycares organize their toys by type and use, which makes the thousands of toys they have seem organized. If you are able to offer a wide variety of toys to your child be happy, just give them the skills they'll need to keep the organized and neat. I love that my kids have plenty of toys to kept them engaged and happy without much television. We have toys outside and inside, in the playroom and in their bedrooms. Yes, I play with them and I too enjoy the variety. But, its also nice too rarely hear, "I'm bored," and to be able to cook dinner without a little one tugging on my pants.
