Hooded Towels
A hooded towel has a triangle shaped hood stitched on one side of a preferably square towel. Most of the hooded towels available are made from unbleached cotton. Hooded baby or toddler bath towels usually have decorative motifs and ribbons stitched to it. An Organic hooded towel is a perfect gift idea for newborns and kids.
Although readymade hooded towels are easily available you can even choose to make a hooded towel on your own. You could use a regular sized bath towel and a matching hand towel.
Cut in a hand towel in half. If you cut the end of a regular size towel like me, cut it 9-10 inches wide. For the cut beach towel, fold in both sides about 2-3 inches and sew in the flap.
Next, lay out your large beach towel and line up your cut small towel (the hood) on top of the large towel, then pin. Then pin the hood sides together to form a triangle point at the top and sew them together. Make sure you are sewing from the inside, so that the seam is not seen when the child wears the towel.Have fun making these towels, helping your kids stay dry!
Whether you buy off the shelf or choose to make one yourself, you may want to know what is good for your friends or relatives or your own child.
1. The towel cloth should be made from Organic materials as they are good for the health of the baby.
2. The towel should be of cotton terry cloth for faster drying.
3. The ribbon should preferably be a jacquard ribbon as it stitches better with cotton and the risk of frayed ends is minimum.
4. If making at home, choose either towel cloth that sells by the yard or an Organic toddler bath towel material and a hand towel. One hand towel with make two hoods.
Hooded towels can be stitched by hand or with a sewing machine.
