I'm a teenage girl and I want to redo my bedroom. I can't think of any ideas. I know I don't want my walls blue though. I want just a simple room that isn't too girly has has room on the walls to hang up my paintings. If you have any ideas or opinions, they would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer

Answer
You're right, a bedroom should be all of those things! I'm a teenage girl too and I'm currently in the middle of decorating my bedroom! I've got some ideas for you here but just to give you a few ideas I'm doing my bedroom with purple, pink, and lime green. I've painted the wall behind my bed a really nice purple colour and I have a gorgeous purple, pink, and green bedding set. I'm gonna buy some cute lamps and a rug for my room and then I think I'll be done! Here are some ideas for your room:
First off, get a theme or colour scheme. For example, you could decorate your room in a shabby-chic style or maybe a more glamorous movie-star theme! It's up to You! If you don't want a theme then just get a colour scheme. Say, bright candy-apple green and lollipop pink! This can look AMAZING! This is a website with lots of different themes. Just click on the themes in the top left-hand corner for inspiration!

http://themeroomideas.com/Victorian/Vintâ¦

http://themeroomideas.com/Marie-Antoinetâ¦

Move around your furniture if you think it will look better with, say, the bed under the window and your desk near the door. Now buy your bedding, paint, and curtains, as these can really change a room! Buy bedding that either matches your paint or is in a coordinating colour. Look at these websites or Google around for ideas and pictures!

http://www.home-designing.com/2008/09/teâ¦

http://www.roomdecoratingideas.net/blackâ¦

You colud paint all your walls, just one accent wall behind the bed, (This is what I did in my room! :D ) or you could do stripes or wallpaper! It's up to you!

Once you've got your basics, do the really fun part. Shopping! Bring a friend if you like and go to lots of different shops. Try to look out for...
Beanbags,
Floor cushions,
Mirrors,
Wall Art,
Cute Furniture like trunks that you can store stuff in!
Lamps,
A cool headboard,
An area or accent rug (This is quite important!)
And stuff like that.

I think that's a great idea to do signs around the place! There are different ways you could do this:
*If you're creative, You could use blackboard paint and either paint maybe a whole wall of it or just a section, maybe in a cool heart or star shape! Then you can write and draw and scribble all over it as much as you like! The best part is, it'll be super-easy to put up a new word or phrase whenever you want to!
*You could also just paint, write or stencil directly onto the wall with whatever words you like. How about writing someting like "Freindship" or "Love" above your bed or window?! Ask your parents first though!
*If you don't want to do any of these, you can buy wooden letters from a craft shop and decorate them any way you want, then either attach them to the wall with glue, arranch them on a shelf, or hang them from the ceiling with pretty ribbons!

You can also display medals & trophies you've won, framed school papers, photos and general treasures to personalise your room. Have fun and enjoy it and if you're girlie, don't forget Fairy Lights!

Check out websites like these too:

Have fun and make it you!

My boyfriend and I recently got a one bedroom apartment. We would of gotten a 2 bedroom but it's expensive here in New York! Anyways how can we make it work for me him and my kid? I don't wanna have her bed out in the open I want her to have her own space .. Anyways please let me kno! Thanks! :)

Answer
Hi - how about using a 'room divider'? You can do these up how you would like them and it gives you separation from the baby. Have a look here for some ideas. If you purchase a blank one you could use some baby wall decals to stick on - on the baby side and something that you like on your side. Or, cover each side in different fabrics i.e. baby fabric on baby's side and something to match your part of the room on the other side.

Where can i buy a good armoire(for clothes) for my mother's bedroom?

coroncoro4

I want to surprise her with a new armoire but i dont know where to buy a good one, ive been to target but no luck, and ikeas do no exist in Ny. please help, i need to spend no more than $300.00

Answer
Check your local newspaper's classified ads. Sometimes estate sales will list such pieces of furniture, and you can get a really classy armoire this way. Other times, you'll go to the see the furniture and it's very worn-out looking (knicked and scratched or badly in need of sanding and staining), in which you case you keep up your search. It's hit or miss, but you could get lucky!

I got a very nice armoire for $100 this way. It's sturdy and ornately detailed, but it took time to find just what I was looking for. [It is dark-stained oak, to endure my children.] Be patient by realizing that people get rid of things like this all the time, for lack of room, because they are moving or because of a divorce, etc. It's not necessarily because they think it's just junk they want to be rid of. Maybe it belonged to a teen that is now going off to college.

Also, check out some antique and second-hand stores. You never know what you'll find, and sometimes the salespeople will bargain with you over a big item like that.

I realize you are looking for a "new armoire," but consider your budget and what you can get for how much cash you're willing to part with. It's really worth it to look through the classified ads and to visit estate sales (and garage sales) that list furniture, because you can sometimes get a better quality piece of furniture than you might be able to afford otherwise.

Would your mother be any less surprised if you presented her with a really nice armoire that was gently used before? With they money you could save, maybe you could then put something new for her to wear inside of it. That would be thoughtful, too.

Of course, if your mom is superstitious and thus might think the previous owner of the armoire died and that she'll be haunted, then by all means stick with something new.

I think of the newer armoires as rather plain-looking, and not nearly as sturdy as they used to be, unless you're willing to shell out a whole lot of money. But, that's my opinion.

To give you a tangible idea of the difference between what you can get second-hand versus what you can afford that is new, please consider that the armoire I bought for my kids (second-hand, gently used) looked similar to this one (and please see the price of it):

http://www.onewayfurniture.com/bt9004103.html

I've listed several sites (search results for new armoires) below.

I hope this helps.

i want to decorate my bedroom. do you have any ideas of shops in mind? remember, it has to be a kids shop.?
Q. it has to be a kids shop for my little sister. she is ten years old. any shops???????????????????????????

A. IKEA :]
Love the store...

Camping Room Ideas for a Toddler Boy?
Q. Our son has a camping theme room, fairly good size room. We painted it Limey Grassy Green and it has tan carpet and white ceilings with a white ceiling fan. He has 2 giant Leaves over his light wooden twin bed (leaves are from Ikea). He has camping themed bedding and bug sheets (although I'd be interested in finding another set of the bug sheets - we got the bedding set from Target on clearance a couple years ago). He has a matching lamp with scout patches on it. He has a nightstand and a dresser with a mirror on it. My dad is making him a canoe bookshelf (either red or navy blue). He just has regular blinds on his windows right now. Oh, and a big green bug light on his wall. Along the wall that the big leaves and his bed is on, we have his name letters - navy blue from Pottery Barn Kids. Any ideas for things to put on his dresser and bookshelf? Also, we could use 1 or 2 big pictures for his wall!

A. How absolutely FUN! I did one of my son's room in a similar theme many years ago! His was more western, but outdoorsy just the same. I used bright red bandannas to make a valance over his miniblinds, with the points hanging down. Looked really cute.

Some camping ideas...

Cover a round hassock/footstool in a wood grain pattern fabric, or use canvas and paint it to look like a tree stump.

Old bamboo fishing poles for a valance curtain rod, hang fabric (maybe a cute fish print? Run to the fabric store!) using thin rope or string tied as loops through grommets. Old oars would work too, or new ones brightly painted, and you could staple the fabric to the back and then mount them using L brackets over the window.

I love these! http://www.collectionsetc.com/Item50462.aspx

Glow in the dark decals in the shape of stars for his ceiling? They are available practically everywhere, check Walmart!

And where are the little darling's toys going? A little pup tent or teepee maybe? Or even a small inflatable raft or canoe to match the book shelf gramps is making!

A bug rug http://www.terrysvillage.com/tvweb/application?namespace=browse&origin=categoryDisplay.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&sku=91/3276&mode=Browsing&catDestinationJSP=/browse/categoryForward.jsp?categoryId=122686

Time can be directional! Paint a round clock face to look like a compass!

Oh, dear, I'm affraid I could go on and on the more I think about it. But one thing for sure, if it's a camping bedroom he NEEDS this, LOL! http://www.signals.com/signals/Shop-By-Theme_5AA/Nature_5AM/Item_Faux-Fireflies-Jar_HA7432_ps_cti-5AM.html

Just have fun with it! I'd love to be able to see what it turns into!

Decorating my 6 year old daughter's bedroom?
Q. I'm horrible with decorating, but I want something that is fun and beautiful for my daughter without paying a lot of money.
She has all white wicker furniture in her room that my grandma had given us a few years ago. So, I think with that it could be a really neat room.

I want something that you can change maybe pictures or accessories easily, without redoing her entire room every 2 years.

I've been looking for pictures on the internet but I haven't found too many. I want the room to be girly.

Any ideas? Thanks!

A. Why don't you make it fun for your daughter too. Take her out with a digital camera and get her to take pictures of things she likes. I think black and white pictures work best (they tend to hide flaws in photos best). Anyway, that way, she has a part in what is going on her walls. When you are done, you and she can go through the photos she took, pick the numbers you want and get them printed. You could even blow up the best one, putting it in the centre and then have littler ones surrounding it. You could also try doing some colour ones. Do you have a greenhouse in your city? Gardens you could take her to? Teach her how to use the macro setting on the camera so she can take photos up close of the flowers. You may think kids can't take good photos but you'd be surprised! My friend's kid down the street took some photos of my flowers this past summer. They turned out amazingly well! The boy who took them (5 years old) was quite proud of himself.

When you choose your frames, pick ones that are lively in their colour! Ikea has really great frames for kids rooms (and they are relatively cheap). Their sizes are a little strange so you might have to make mats to go around the photos (the usually white border that surrounds pictures in frames). The nice thing with these frames is that you can paint them later if she wants something a little quieter when she gets older.

Also, there is paint that you can get that is magnetic. You can paint that on her walls, then cover it with the original colour (you don't have to leave it black, which is the colour of the magnetic paint). There is also chalk paint that might be fun for her too.

Hope that gives you some ideas!

Cheers!
