I need beach room decoration ideas. can you help?

For a bathroom, I found these cute accessories, fixtures and cabinet hardware: http://www.uncommongoods.com/item/item.jsp?itemId=16017
You can also pick up shells on the beach, clean them out well (soak them in water for a few days) and super glue them around your bathroom mirror to create a "beachy" border.

For a kids' room, paint a mural on the wall. They sell "paint by number" mural kits and it's easier to do than you would think. I have painted several murals in my daughter's room and they turn out great and are very original.

For an adult bedroom, I would get a ceiling fan with the blades shaped like palms, white flowy curtains that look like clouds and some pale blue paint for the walls. Get some decor that is beachy (i.e. a vase filled with shells) and some beach artwork.

My two daughters- 4 and 2- share a small bedroom.

We want to redo it now that they are no longer in cribs and make it look cute for them. We plan on buying another home in a few years after I finish college and they will have their own rooms then, but in the meantime, we want them to have a cute, fun, comfortable place to sleep and play. As stated, I'm a college-mommy, so we don't have a huge budget.

Any ideas?

Remember, every childs bedroom need alot of colour! Bright, bold colours are best because they stimulate the child. You don't have to go over board and spend a lot of money because the child will love whatever they get. I would suggest using alot of the kids own artwork, as this is usually very colourful, will add personality to the room and will make your child feel special. Good luck.

How to make a rec/play room in the basement?

I am moving into a house with very small bedrooms. to make up for that my parents are letting my sister and i( im 12 shes 9 turing 10 in november) turn the basement into a rec room / play room :)
any ideas on what to put in it, how to decorate,paint, anything!!! i need lots of ideas :) thanks guys !

That's so cute, you guys are going to have a great time. I did one for my kids in our old house, so that's what I'm basing my answer on.

You would need to clean everything first. If they'll let you paint the walls, you should decide on your favorite colors and go for it. If painting isn't an option,start covering the wall with (both of your) artwork.

Get a cute rug, if you can.

Find shelves - if they'll let you shop at target or ikea, you could look there. If not, just pick up any shelves from a Goodwill store or a garage sale and try painting them.

If you have little windows at the top of your walls, you can make little curtains out of pillowcases or a sheet you like.

Also, pillows and beanbags would be great near the tv or books. Don't forget, anything plastic (chairs, boxes, etc ) can be spray painted any color you want with special spray paint made for plastic (Wal-mart, hardware store, etc)

You guys can paint your names on things, use "chalkboard paint," corkboard, whatever - you should just think of what you like, and then brainstorm about how you can make the theme part of your new room.

Advice on having a newborn with a two year old at home?

We just brought home our newborn baby girl on Saturday. We also have 7 year old and 2 year old daughters.. so we have a house full of girls now!

My two year old has been very intrested in the baby, she is not jealous or upset but just curious which of course is normal.. she wants to "hold" her and thinks she is big enough to pick her up etc..

My husband is currently home with me for the next few days but I am really feeling overwhelmed with the idea of having them all alone..

I would love some advice from other Moms on how they dealt with a two year old and a newborn.. I just want to make sure they are both safe & happy! thanks

I just went through the same thing when I brought my 2 month old home. For the first few weeks my 2 year old was VERY interested and was really eager to help, but it passed after a few weeks and now she's fine without being able to hold the baby without our help. I did the same thing as one of the other respondents, I bought a baby for my 2 year old and we changed both babies at the same time, fed them both etc.

One thing that really saved me was having one common room where we all stayed when the baby was awake (I used my living room). I let my 2 year old bring a few toys from her bedroom, had books on hand, let her watch movies more than I usually would have, etc. Books are great because they're pretty hands off for mommy as long as you can read the words. When the baby went to sleep my 2 year old and I would work on cleaning up the house together or go play in her bedroom or outside together so she didn't feel left out. Also, I moved my 2 year olds art easel into the kitchen so she could do her artwork while I was doing dishes, cooking, etc. In order to take showers I would bring my 2 year old in the shower with me and she would play with her bath toys while I showered.

I was really nervous about having my hubby go back to work also, he works 60-80 hour weeks and is on call 24-7. What I did when he was home was send him out (to do yard work, go to the store) for a few hours at a time and took care of the kids myself to build up my confidence and soon realized that it could easily be done since babies sleep so much.

You can do it, just remember that a toddlers schedule can be put off for half an hour or so and they'll never know the difference. Just take a deep breath, cry if you have to, and you'll be great!

Decorating toddler girl's room?

My family and I are buying a new house, and I was just looking for some ideas on ways to decorate my 2 years old daughter's bedroom that will last her a few more years than a fav cartoon character would. Any ideas?

For young children, I prefer picking a color scheme and then using accessories to change the look of the room. Stick to 3 or so colors that you and she like that go well together.

Find or make curtains and bedspread/pillows in fabric that fits your color scheme. Try to stay with theme-neutral patterns, like solids, stripes, checks and/or polka dots. (There are lots of fun "modern" or "retro" style fabrics out there that looks great in kids' rooms.)

Find some picture frames that you like...pictures on the wall can easily be switched out as her tastes change. You can frame magazine pictures, her own artwork, family photos, or purchased art.

As she gets older, her toys and belongings will provide lots of decoration and a sense of her personality. Maybe she'll collect teddy bears or become fascinated with flowers. Using color as the main "theme" right now will keep her room from looking too overdone and busy when her interests shine through.

Hi :-)

If I were you, I would put up wallpaper (that matches your color scheme) on all of the walls except for the wall with the mural. I would paint the wall with the mural a solid red color (so it plays off of your accents) and then put the black-and-white mural over that.

For furniture, I'd buy (or paint) everything in white. It'll play off of the wall paper and mural, and it's a really classic color, so if you change your room or move out, it'll match everything. Your bedspread should be red or black with red accents, too. I'd look into adding little splotches of red (like artwork or organizational things) in your bedroom.
