How long does to take to get rich?
princess
Okay I know that the question sounds immature. But my parents have done a lot for me and my brother. Like they spoiled us and went out of their way to do things for us. Like once I said I am interested in music and learning how to play the violin. So he bought me a violin...in short they gave us everything and more. We are from India and moved to NZ ten years ago. He (my dad)left a good job in India so we (his kids) could hav a better life. He passed away two years ago due to cancer. We moved in a way smaller house after that. After my dad passing away, we are financially worse off. We can't use any heaters during winter time cos of bills, we sometimes don't have the money for groceries. I am studying and have a part time job but that is not enough. My mum's health condition doesn't allow her to work.
For all that my parents have done, I want to give my mum a nice, fully fenced, security(alarms, camera...) four bedroom (for all of us) house. Also a housekeeper cos I don't want her to do a lot of work. If there are such things as souls, thn my dad would also be happy. I want give her luxuries so she doesn't have to do a lot of work...
I am 21 at the moment and Working towards a conjoint of engineering and arts(planning to major in two languages). Also I will do maybe mechatronics (specialization for engineering). I will be 25 by the time I finish studying and the maybe two years to pay off the study loan.
I know it is a difficult goal and I am willing to work hard for it. I want to be successful and have a good job ( in engineering, cos it's my passion), earning a lot of money, traveling overseas for projects...
Please don't take this the wrong way, I am very appreciative of the things I have cos a lot of people have had worse things happened to them. But I definately and clearly want to be in a much better position financially.
So I kind of don't know how to achieve this goal. I am lost... Can you guys give me advice...
Cheers,
Princess :)
PS I want realistic ways, not ideas like marry a rich guy. I want hard earned money.
So I mean realistic things that I can do, steps I can take (when it comes to buying a house, what kind of job should I get so I become successful in my career...)
Answer
Your engineering degree plus language skills should land you a good job. It won't make you fabulously wealthy but you'll have enough to support yourself and give your mother a good chunk too. As you get toward the end of your degree program, recruiters will probably visit your school looking for new employees. If you emphasize that you can communicate well in more than one language you'll have an edge over someone that speaks only English in any company that deals with customers or branches using that language. Just pick the best offer you get, then live frugally.
Buying a house is something you need to be educated on. At some point, start reading articles on buying real estate so you have a better idea of what you're getting into. A lot depends on what the market is like when you're ready to buy.
