Ideas to control the mess of children's books on the floor?

Dawn

Hello! I have a 25 month old who loves books. I currently have a book shelf & plastic bin for books. I am a stay at home mom & by the end of the day she has emptied the shelf & dumped the tub. I think she gets mad when they are put away because she can't see the pictures & find the one she wants me to read, for the millionth time :)

I am short on money for more shelves or tubs( I also feel these don't work) . I am hoping some experienced mommies can give me some pointers on how to cut down the clutter of all these books. I work with her on "cleaning/picking up", but she is still a little young, so please don't tell me to make her clean her mess. And giving some away are out of the question. She will dig & dig until she finds the one she is looking for.

Thanks for your advice!

First, be happy that she loves books. :-)

I know it's irritating, but this is how toddlers are. If she weren't dumping books, she'd be dumping blocks or crayons or something else.

I have a few different ideas depending on what you think will work best for your household.

1) You could only give her access to a few books at a time and leave the rest out of her reach so that she can't have them all out at once.

2) You could keep working with her to put a book back everytime she wants to get out a new one.

3) You could just let it go all day and then help her pick up the books at the end of the day. No, I don't think she should have to clean them up by herself b/c that would be overwhelming, but I think that she should certainly be helping you.

I have three kids (ages 5, 4, and 1 1/2), and we have a houseful of books. There's a shelf of books in the girls' bedroom and another shelf in my son's bedroom. We have a tall bookshelf in the family room, and we have books stacked on the coffee table in the living room. I figure it's more important that the kids are developing a love of books than it is for my house to be clutter-free. We do our best to put them all on shelves or in stacks at the end of each day, but there are often a few left scattered throughout the house.

And honestly, we also have dolls, trucks, puzzle pieces, blocks, etc. everywhere, too. Again, we do our best to keep things tidy (and the kids are expected to help), but in general, time with my kids is more important than having everything perfectly in its place. :-)

ideas for a book (PLEASE HELP!!!)?

Answer
Here's an idea:
A girl's life is falling apart. Her mother was recently sent to jail for killing her father, her younger brother is hanging out with the wrong crowd, and her older sister is skipping school all the time. Not to mention her Grandmother, who all three kids are living with, doesn't understand her and won't move out of her two bedroom apartment. Then the girl begins to see a strange boy. He pops up everywhere. First she thinks it's just because they live in a relatively small town, then she knows he's watching her. He begins talking to her about 'coming over to his side'. He reveals he's a demon sent to persuade her to join the 'dark' side as she has potential of really helping his master. He leaves it at that in every conversation. She doesn't know he's trying to wreck her life even more so she'll turn to him, and his master, for comfort.

Good luck with it.
