Affordable Orlando, Florida trip with 3 children?

Tiffan

ages 12,9,8 months ......We will be driving to Florida. I'm trying to get ideas of places to take my children that would be fun and entertaining for all 3. Any ideas or experiences you have of places you've visited? A list of places would be great ...... I'm not sure what costs what with the Disney themed parks ...but which 2 would you suggest for the ages of my children? Any other places ...? Thank you very much!

Answer
Disney parks are $75 per person. Your 9 y/o will be a bit cheaper, the 8 month old will be free.
I would say do Magic Kingdom for sure, and either Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studio's. Tons of characters and great kid-themed rides!

- Sea World is great. Your kids will love it there! If you don't take them to Sea World, do Aquatica, very kid friendly.
- Universal is something I would avoid. It's for older kids mostly. Your 12 y/o might enjoy it, but your younger ones won't have much to do.
- The beaches on the gulf coast have very warm water. Great to take kids to because the beaches are very clean, everyone could have a great time.

- Stay on property at Disney or in a family-friendly hotel like the Seralago. Personally, with 3 kids and if your doing Disney, that's what I would do. Also, there are some nice hotels like the Sheraton Vistana in Lake Buena Vista with a full kitchen and 2 bedrooms if your interested in something like that.

- Disney is really baby-friendly. They have baby care centers where you can just take a break. Another plus to staying on Disney property is you can go back to your hotel mid-day and have a nap, your older ones can watch tv, get a snack and you can go back to the parks later on for dinner and fire works.

- Try going to restaurants like Golden Corral and Cici's Pizza Buffet. They are cheap and theres something for everyone there. Also, do your groceries at Wal-Mart, much cheaper and you can still feed your kids like you would at home. Personally I think Burger King and most fast food in the USA isn't as good as in Canada, but check out Chick-Fil-A. It's awesome. If you dine at Disney, try T-Rex, your kids would probably like it. Depending on if they are girls or boys you could always do a Princess breakfast, or either way character dining at Chef Mickey's.

Anyways I hope this helps!

Giving up everything and moving to China.Has anyone done this?

I'm thinking about giving up everything I've ever done in my homeland (USA) and moving to China. I've fallen in love with a native and can't live without her. is this being impulsive or just following a dream?

Answer
Your cyber girlfriend might have the same idea about moving to the States to be with you, so you'd better ask her up front what she wants.

My experience is that most Chinese girls can't be away from their families for an extended period of time, and if this is the case you should be prepared to live in an extremely close proximity to her parents and grandparents for the rest of your/their lives. This includes the 99% chance that they will expect to move in with you, even if all you can afford is a cramped 2-bedroom apartment. Think I'm kidding or stereotyping? Come here and find out yourself.

BUT...if she is one of those notorious "visa girls" just looking to escape China, then she's going to be real ticked off if you decide to stay in China. Like I said, press her for an honest answer before you make the move. That said, come on over! There's literally millions of other potential soul mates here should the other girl fall through.

I myself came on a lark by responding to a teach English job ad. I just threw my stuff in storage, tossed some books and clothes into my backpack and flew over without any semblance of Chinese language or culture. I only expected to stay about a year, but I've been here 4 straight years since, never had the desire to return home.

The thing with most expats in China is that they either love it or detest it; it usually breaks the weak ones within the first half year; if you last longer than that then you know you've found your second home.

p.s. White Shooting Star of HK is a very knowledgeable member of YA, but from his latest answer it seems he adheres to the traditional Chinese belief that life should be methodically mapped out and one should never follow their impulses. As an American and world traveler, I take exception to this custom; do what your heart tells you!
