Thinking of moving to Toronto: Advice?

~Gwen~
I'm in my mid twenties, so by no means "old", I am a older than the average student starting first year.
I have a fair amount of postsecondary under my belt, but I haven't found anything I really love. I'm currently taking Website Admin, and will be finished that June of 2010.
My brother told me (his words) to stop being an idiot and do what I know I like, so I'd like to go to UofT to do Astrophysics and Astronomy.
I'm from Newfoundland, moved here from Ontario when I was 4, so I don't have any real memory of anywhere but here. I live in St. John's now, which isn't a "real" city by any means.
I might be able to live in St. George Res for married students, but assuming I can't, I'd still like advice about where to live.
How much does it cost a couple to live per month? My boyfriend is an x-ray tech and hopefully will be able to sign onto Toronto hospital, or Sick Kids since he likes working with children. They earn about 30 dollars an hour gross. With my occasional web design contracts, will we be able to afford it?
Sorry for the rambling post! I'm nervous about this idea!
Answer
Your not rambling, I to moved from a smaller city back in the 1970's to Toronto to go to University, but ended up becoming a chef instead, for what your both involved with now there are many opportunity's, you may want to talk with a placement agency, to help you as they have access to the hidden job market, I moved back here 5 years ago when my mother went into a retirement home, I am in my 50's and on a structured disability. I was with a formerly well known hotel chain and worked in Canada, Jamaica, Singapore and Japan.
If your in a residence it will be less than if your on your own, for 2 people in a 1 bedroom apartment in the area around the U of T, or in the area I am called the Annex, it is the area bounded by Spadina to Dovercourt, from Dupont up to Davenport Rd, and is a few TTC stops from the U of T. Figure for both of you with rent, food transportation and other things $3000 - 4000, rent is going to be $750 - 1000, and depending on your diet and transportation needs figure $1000, then your other needs.
I would look at what you spend now, and figure where you spend it, as for you jobs you can figure with full time or temporary work here to make 30-50K a year.
