I need some ideas to keep me motivated to get the whole house clean. I'll clean a room or two and then just stop. It's so frustrating. I've tried blairing music while cleaning; it doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Answer
I hear you! I hate having to clean an entire house! The best way to handle this problem is to keep a routine, so that you won't have to spend an entire day or 2 cleaning.

1. When you step into a room, ask yourself this question: "What is it that is making this room such a mess?" Then take action to keep that problem in check EVERY DAY. In my kitchen, my problem was mainly dirty dishes. So I decided every nite after dinner to fill the dishwasher and run it. In the morning while getting my son ready for school, I put the dishes away. I made a new rule that dishes couldn't go in the sink anymore. They had to go straight into the dishwasher. I make sure I run it faithfully, every nite, whether its full or not. I make sure I empty it every morning. It takes 5 minutes. The rest is easy. When you see a box of cereal left on the counter, put it away right away. Throw out junk mail as soon as you get it, everything you need to keep can go into a nice basket to keep it contained in one spot.
2. Bedroom problem for me was clothes. Clean clothes weren't put away, means dirty clothes were on the floor. That makes a big mess. I made a basket for whites, a basket for colored clothes, and a common basket in the hallway for towels and sheets to go in. This way, everything is already sorted. When a basket is full, wash it. Then put it away right away, so you have a place to keep dirty clothes.
3. Bathroom problem for me was cosmetics all over the counter. I bought a basket to throw all my makeup stuff in, and one for my hair dryer, hair spray, etc. I bought a storage shelf to hold my baskets and it makes it easy to clean up the countertop.

I have a daily routine now, where I spend the first hour of my morning just doing the basics, and I can straighten up the entire house in that time. It's always clean, and it makes me and my family so much happier. Remember if you have kids to make them responsible for cleaning their own room. I make my son pick up his room in the morning before he catches the bus. I don't nag him about little stuff, like if his bed is made perfectly or not, as long as it is straightened up, and doesn't look like a bomb went off, I'm happy. He has recently gotten to the point where he will do it without me even reminding him to.

Another thing that keeps me motivated is burning some nice smelling candles. Nothing like a clean house that smells nice!
I hope this helps, the hour a day is well worth the serenity a clean house will bring! Good luck :)

How many kids can you babysit without having a liscence?

Tired-Mom

I am wanting to babysit so I can be home with my two kids and be able to pay some bills.
Someone told me that you can have up to 5 kids without having a liscence. Is that true??? How many can you have with a liscence????
I don't have a room that could be designated for the kids so I wouldn't be able to have a Child Day care at my house. I know they make you have one room set aside just for the kids.
Any opinions would be great thanks.

Answer
Each state is different and you can find out the rules for your state at http://nrc.uchsc.edu/STATES/states.htm

This site lists the statutes and a contact but I think the easiest way would be to just call the licensing contact the site provides and ask them your specific questions. Most licensing divisions hold frequent orientation meetings for people looking for more information about getting licensed. To give you an idea though, in my state you can care for any amount of kids you want without a license for 30 days or less out of the year (this covers most casual babysitters). If you plan on running a full time daycare you can care for any amount of kids for one family other than your own. If you want to care for kids from multiple families then you need a license. You can get licensed for a max of 3 to 12 kids depending on ages and how much space you have. For example I could watch 3 babies or 12 school age kids if I had enough space. You don't need a specific room just for the kids. When they come to do the home visit and calculate the square footage they include any space that the kids would use. For example they include your kitchen, bathroom, family room, any bedrooms where you would put the kids to nap, etc. They would not count your storage room or attic or the master bedroom (unless you planned on napping people in there too) or any other areas that the children wouldn't use. So research your state and good luck!
