What if an 8 or 9-year old boy wanted his bedroom walls painted pink?

Q. Suppose his sister has her bedroom walls pink, and he likes the color, so he wants his room pink as well. Would parents agree to that? Or would they make him choose another color?

A. It's just a color. My 11 year old nephew loves pink and purple -- so what? He's a kid! Pink is bright and cheerful and the color of a lot of things kids like -- bubblegum, Pop Tarts, strawberry ice cream. Paint is cheap and he can always change it when he gets older.
