What would be the monthly cost of living in Dubai and Kuwait for a couple and 2 kids to live a decent life?
Q. A couple of websites put it at USD 4500 max, but a couple of others have told me it would be much more both in Dubai and Kuwait. Some clarity from real people who know, will help. thanks.
A. Dear
The cost of rent for a 1 bedroom apartment will be somewhere around ADE 70,000(minimum) p.a. and you will need to pay it completely in advance (if u get 2 instalments u r lucky) for a reasonable location. House hold expenses (including travelling )vary depending upon ur habits but for 4 people moderate spending will cost ADE 45,000 p.a. school fee will be again dependent on which kind of school u want to send ur kid (also nationality matters eg u want to send ur kid to Indian/Filipino/other school) ADE4,800 to ADE 18,000 pa. For 2 multiply it by 2.
For Kuwait ur main saving shall be rent i.e. almost half. Other things shall also be less.

AED vs. USD
18,000.00 AED = 4,901.961 USD
United Arab Emirates Dirhams United States Dollars
1 AED = 0.272331 USD 1 USD = 3.67200 AED
Disadvantages;
It is geographicaly located between conflicting countries, English is not the local language, 90% of the population or so are muslims (good people) but different culture...

What could be the cost of living with 4 school going kids and spouse in UAE as upper middle class?
Q.
A. I live in Dubai, 2 teenage kids at international school - 51,000 AED each per year, rent for 3 bedroom condo (nice) 280,000 AED per year. Lets see, we are already up to almost 400,000 which is 33,333 AED per month without food, clothing, travel, utilities, a car, savings etc etc. Get the picture? It is expensive to live well here (and other than a few tall buildings, not a particularly nice place to call home). If you are negotiating with your employer, make sure you understand the costs before you sign on the dotted line !
Good luck.
Good luck.
I'm 52 (divorced) & seriously considering moving to the UAE (Dubai or Abu Dhabi) to work?
Q. I will be working as a project manager in the construction industry (salary circa £70K). Can anybody advise me on the cost of living i.e. apartments, cars, food etc.
Also any pitfalls (if any), what packages are available from employers that I need to ask for and information that will make my transfer to a better life easier.
To all those who reply, a big thank you.

A. Here's what to expect in Dubai or Abi Dhabi:
Accomodation:
Biggest headache and so unpridictable. Rising to almost 40% increase every year. For a two-bedroom apartment, consider around PDS 15 to 20K. So ensure that accomodation has to be company provided. Villas with nice little garden and common swimming pool should be around PDS 25K and above.
Normally, the company will provide the following:
1. Health Insurance for self & Family.
2. Return Tickets for Family & Self once a year for 30 days.
3. Educational Allowance for kids.
4. Conveyance Allowance
On top of the above, the normal go for a European Project Manager in Dubai or Abu Dhabi specially for hight rise buildings is circa PDS. 60K minimum.
Remember - it's tax free !!! (No VAT, Income, State, Sales, Federal, Salary, etc, taxis) reasons why a lot of people are driving Porsche, Jaguars, Aston DB7's, Mercedes, BMW, etc in this area - fuel is cheap !!!
