Murals for Kids bedrooms and nurseries, how to get started?

Q. I have always been artistic and have wanted to get into the business of painting rooms for children, murals in daycares and window painting. Can someone tell me how to get started? I can create a web page and make flyers, but how do you charge and what is the going rate? Any tips would be appriciated.

A. You definitley need a portfolio. Set up your web page, show some work. If you don't have much to show, go to friends and neighbors, family and offer to do some freebies and work for cost of material. Invest in a good camera.
Get a business card going, make a notecard with your business card, something that has all your info and examples of your work.
Take your portfolio and card to local businesses, home builders, contractors, paint stores will sometimes hand them out.
I'm in OK, and also a muralist and art teacher.
Make sure you add in gas/mileage..And never give your ideas out for free. When working with a potential client, set up a consultation and charge a nominal fee, to cover gas and your talent and time. If they hire you, you take of the fee when you give final charge.
I've had people take my ideas I worked on and then give it to a family member to do the work.
Word of mouth will take you far!!

What is the avergae house price in hillcroft, sugarland or hwy 59 i men four bedroom house with two baths?
Q. Also please tell me about the rental units available. I am looking for 3 bedda villa or units. How much approx.? Where most Indians and Pakis are concentrated and what about kids schooling in and around hwy 59, sugarland, and hillcroft areas

A. the houses in the areas you are talking about are going to run from 150000 to 270000 Remember that the homes off hillcroft are older homes now and each year they go up in price,, example the home I live in 45 years ago built new was 26000 today all the homes around me and mine appraise for 300000, and it is only about 2300 sq feet

you can fine a newer home in the 150 to 180 range in sugarland and it will be a very nice well built home upwards of 2000 square feet and the schools are great in fort bend county where houston schools are allright, also sugarland are will have more things for the kids such as sports

How can i prevent neighbor kids to stay out of my lawn?
Q. It's a large lawn, the boys especially pull on our tree branches n walk n run over my grass. I have told them to stop. If I catch them again, I will talk with thier parents. Otherwise, are there certain plants I can plant go keep them away? Line the front with Roses for example? Or hedges that I can grow to a couple feet? Thanks

A. Several ideas.

1.) Remember the mean old man/lady in the neighborhood growing up? You know that neighbor. If your ball went into their yard, you'd play odds or evens to decide who got stuck with trying to sneak into that yard to get the ball, and whoever did that was considered brave. They just scared us that much. Become that neighbor.

2.) Talk to the parents. Someone suggested the parents were bad parents. Not necessarily. My brothers and I had good parents, so we'd have to be sneaky. Talk to the parents, and you might solve your problem right then and there. The kids might try it again, so you have to go back, but we stopped being sneaky the moment we knew sneaky wasn't sneaky enough.

3.) Do what my Dad did. When my parents moved into the house I grew up in (because I was on the way, and am third of 6, so they needed more than a two bedroom apartment), the house was corner property and kids cut through the hedges for a shortcut. Dad simply installed barbed wire through the bushes. Immediately stopped the neighborhood kids from doing that, and we became instantly trained not to do that.

4.) Hose. Hose down the kids when they disobey. Disadvantage, if it's in the heat of summer and they want to cool off, but, even there, if they start laughing and do it to cool off, invite them up for a soda, and make friends with them. No one wants to be sneaky or mean to someone who does something nice for them. Matter of fact, chances are good, if you could ever use a little extra help, they might be willing. The friends would have to be consistent though. Just once won't cut it.

what is your relationship with the land immediately surrounding you?
Q. caretaker? landlord?

your tiny plot serves you well. it's within arm's reach, gives the dog a place to go instead of inside, and that nice picket fence keeps the neighbor's kids from stealing your newspaper.

steward? cultivator?

that rainwater garden you constructed helps you keep your water use to a minimum, and those rall native trees keep your yard nice and cool in july. you can't wait until the strawberries get ripe, and delight in the bluejays that have shared their home with you. and the chipmunks. and the toads.

manager? adversary?

the frost heaves from last winter have thrust their fingers through your beautiful asphalt deck. those cracks are too big to be sealed properly, but if you tear it out and replace it with concrete, now that should be permanent. if you can only remember to take down that maple out back that blocks the view.

how would you describe your relationship with your immediate surroundings? details: what works? what doesn't? do you know why?

A. The beauty of owning that piece of property I owe to no one especially the surrounding neighbors. That being said, I do make sure that nothing is deposited on my land to interfere with the drinking water for me and my neighbors we all have wells. We maintain that little piece of heaven so that everyone enjoys the benefit of the care that each individual owner has offered to the neighbors for viewing. Yes we have fences, to keep the dogs in NOT the neighbors out! As a rule none of try to remove trees on the property sometimes it just can't be helped. Example of gracious neighbor. I went to the neighbor and ask if I could cut the branches down from her walnut tree that hung over my property. I said I was just getting too old to pick them up every fall and so was the neighbor. She had all of the trees removed including several soft maples. Lucky her she was in the hospital when we had a severe ice storm that demolished most of the trees in the neighborhood.
I am the steward of all that surrounds my home and hopefully a good one.
Where I live I don't have to worry about a paved driveway. Outside city limits gravel/stone driveways. We don't have many blujays but we have 14 PAIR of doves they gather around my garden pond and nest.
The wren houses are just outside my youngest granddaughter bedroom and she watched them build the nest care for 4 babies and watched the very last one leave the nest for good. She took pictures to save for her children some day. We know that several will return because we provide free housing . She also watches the 2 baby rabbits kick up a storm and play outside her window and eat the food that she puts out there, along with 3 baby squirrels. It's quite a site. We have planted several trumphet vines for the humming birds. Our garden is mixed in with our butterfly garden and that consists of tomatoes, cucumbers and fall butternut squash. These will all be shared with the older neighbors that are unable to garden any longer. We try to accomodate all of the wildlife and the neighbors . It's a good neighborhood with lots of kids that play in the street. It's nice not to live within the confines of concrete and asphalt.
That pretty well makes us :
caretakers and stewards
forget manager\adversary
