i'm redoing my bedroom and i need ideas?

Q. i'm 18, and i've had the same bedroom for almost 10 years. the walls are lime green, bright blue, and purple. its a decently sized room, and the carpet is an off white (with many stains...oops!). i have another room attatched to my bedroom (its over the garage) and i painted it a rich red color with zebra pattern painted on the cieling and parts of the wall, so i'm trying to avoid animal print and the color red. i just have absolutely noo idea how to decorate my bedroom. i want either a theme or a color scheme to go off of but i cant come up with anything. i'm not really 'girly' but i'm not a total tomboy either. also, i'm much more of an adult than a kid/teenager, so something more adult, yet, not boring, ya know? any suggestions?

Q. Hi, i'm remodeling my room and I wanted to get some ideas. I don't know weather to do a room theme or a color scheme. I really wanted to do a
-dark raspberry and Chocolate color.

-any other ideas (not to weird or overused) I want to be original

But my room isn't the biggest and I heard that it make your room smaller. Well does it? If I had a room theme I want to do
- Contemporary modern theme (with same color scheme)
I would also would have a low bed

-Maybe a black and white theme
I would need a dresser and desk (any ideas)

Are there any other schemes or colors I should think about

-I'm really girl (but no little kid stuff)
-I want something that will last some time

A. Dark colors get old quick. If you change your mind about the deep raspberry/brown later on down the track, you'd have to redo the entire room all over again. I'd suggest going for a color scheme that's a little less bold, and a lot more versatile. That way, if you change your mind (which you probably will, as your only thirteen) you can change the room aswell.

It really depends on the size of your room and how much natural light it gets. If it doesn't get much sunlight, then i would definately recommend light colors. A few colour schemes that work are;

White, Purple, Silver.
White, Light Blue, Silver.
Light pink, Light Green, Yellow (soft girly pastel shades)
Black and White (very chic and modern. Can be paired with any other color but pink works best)

I recommend sticking with neutral colors first off. With basics (sheets, cushions, furniture) in white, you can't go wrong. White goes with everything.

That's great that you have an aquarium! I have one too, although no fish are in it yet. It was given to me by a friend and i cant wait go buy some fish for it and set it up. An aquarium can be the ultimate decorative piece. Mine is going in my lounge room, and will co-ordinate well with my decorating scheme (cool blues, purples and silvers with a base of white) so maybe you could keep it and decorate your room around it? Buy cool white sheets and covers, a couple cushions in ice blue or silver, a white mosquito net canopy above your bed, etc.

Garage sales are great for cheap items of furniture, and im sure you'll be able to pick up an old set of dresser drawers if you don't already have some. A sanding back, a fresh coat of paint, and you've got yourself something nice =) A mirror placed above a desk or drawers like that can transform it into a beautiful dressing table.

Another way to transform the mood of a room is by using lighting. A new lamp, or an old one redecorated with some ribbon or lace, can really set the mood off. Try placing one on the dresser, and you'll have instant glamor. Pretty bowls can hold your jewelery, and fabric flower hair accessories can be clipped to the mosquito net/canopy to create a beautiful atmosphere. xx

So,This is going to be kind of long..And if you don't like it,GET OVER IT,SKIP TO THE NEXT QUESTION,I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THIS THEME I AM WANTING TO USE,BUT I DON'T CARE ABOUT TROLLS,DON'T NEED EM!! Now,My room is dull and boring..But,This is the crazy part,And don't poke fun or judge..Please? I already have enough hell to deal with,Insulting me is just going to get on my nerves even more..
But,I want my room to be 'Cullen/Twilight' Inspired..HOLD ON,READ::I don't mean like making my room PLASTERED with posters of twilight and the cullens,I mean like..Decorating my room,{And possibly the house} like The Cullens house on twilight,I am choosing this,Because the house is simply beautiful and amazing!! I want people to walk in,And they be reminded of The Cullen House,Or have a kind of 'cool and calm' vibe..Ya' Know? PROBLEM:Lazy,Evil Ass,{I'm not kidding either!} Mother,And disgusting ass evil 'Mother's second husband',I DON'T DARE CALL HIM MY SD,OR SF..! Are so controlling,And if I even did ONE big thing to the house,They would freak out,Or get pissed off and tell me to make it like it was before..And why the hell would they want that? A. Wow, that was a long question.

It sounds like you are having a tough time of things at home. You seem to need some space to call your own and you want to decorate it up the way you want it. That sounds reasonable.

Problem is that it sounds like your family is in a little bit of a funk or mess. They aren't keeping up with the household and it sounds like no one wants to take any responsibility for anything.

You also point out that you will not be allowed to do much, if anything in the line of 'change' to anything. And it sounds like maybe there is only one computer in the house.

Okay, if I got all the above right then here is my answer to you.
1. You need to ask to have a room of your own. Or at least a space of your own. Then you need to clean that space up and use what you have to make it look the way you want. First and for most is clean and organized. Then you can look around for blankets and curtains that will give you the 'feel' you are looking for. (walls may have to stay white and carpets will stay whatever) but over time you can collect the pieces you want. (best of all -- you will be able to take your collection with you when you move out!!) So ask for a room of your own. Or maybe half a room that is just for YOU.

2. In a household of very selfish people, it seems it may be rubbing of on you. You can't really expect to own the family computer, can you? Seems kind of unreasonable and you are more mature than that. So what to do..... hum-mm.... do you think they would allow your a scheduled time on the computer? Maybe the same 2 hours every day? and that would be YOUR TIME. -- If they would allow that it would be great (but you have to do your schedule when they say) -- In the meanwhile, start looking for a used lap top or pc of your own.

3 You said they (the parents) won't give you any money -- okay, don't care about that -- you're 16, you can earn some money. Baby sit, clean out garages, rake peoples yards. The cash you make can be used to purchase comforters and curtains and rugs and lamps for your room and in time even give you enough to buy that computer of your own. It won't be easy though You said you aren't lazy and you sound so unhappy I know you are motivated and have the determination to do this.

Make a plan to leave the mess of a family behind. You've got 2 years to get prepared. Get some jobs save 1/2 to 1/4 of everything you make. Do the best you can with school, (show them they are WRONG) In two years a lot will have changed -- you will have a license to drive. Hopefully you will have enough saved to buy a car (and your decorating should be done by this fall if you work hard)

Things will get better -- but the number one thing you need to do right now is rise above it. Think it over -- see them for the mess that they are. It really sounds like they are unhappy with life. Don't let them pull you down. Plan your future and stay the course and feel sorry for the sadness that is their life and their choice to live. You can chose to live your life differently. But - you will have to take the first step (then the second and so on.)

Q. I'm turning 13 soon and my family is moving to a new house where everyone has their own rooms (there are 5 kids) my mom is getting rid of all are furniture for new stuff. im having my room painted orange with a navy blue stripe in the middle with furniture white (i wanted black but my mom said white for girls but the colors go so i'm fine with it) i'm worried i cant do much with the bedding etc. because of the color theme white, navy, and orange. i also am having a hard time finding a desk i like to draw, mold clay, make masks, design things, writing stories that sort of stuff so i need space. i was thing of a platform bed as well but i'm not sure. i need basic stuff a book shelf, desk, bed, dresser but i cant find any one that don't look like a 5 year olds (i would know my bed was one from when i was four and its a twin sized >.<) any ideas for my room? lol sorry its so long.
My mom and i are still talking about the shades of orange I was thinking bright orange and navy and she thinks a lighter blue with a normal orange. I want a modern room with a bit of a Japanese/Asian thing I'm into the whole zen thing. I'm into Japanese and Chinese culture so any decor with their theme.

A. Your mom is wise in vetoing the black. Your room would look like Halloween, and that's about as far from japanese as you can get. I collect Asian, Japnese and Chinese items, and they do use a dark blue, but it's more of a cobalt than navy, but navy would work. They use very little orange though. They do a lot of black and red, so you may have trouble finding Japanese items that wiill go with orange.

Here are some ideas:

Since you seem to enjoy crafts, get a shallow dish, and make an artificial bosai with a small tree, a couple of rocks, some immitation grass, or some sand, and a small mirror for water. Small artificial trees, and immitation grass can be found at craft, and hobby stores.
Hang some paper lanterns
Put a couple of Asian fans on your wall
Look in flea markets, or garage sales for Japanese knick-knacks, vases, ginger jars, statues, etc.

Maybe what you need is a fairly good sized work table, instead of a traditional desk. For your furniture, square with straight lines is more adult, and more like Asian. On dressers you can always replace the knobs if they don't fit with your decor.
Someone on here had a link to platform beds a couple of days ago. Look through the questions, and see if you can find it. It had some really nice styles. You can always google platform beds too. That's a good choice as they look very Japanese. Zen is very calm, peaceful, and minimalistic, with everything in balance. Just keep that in mind as you decorate, and you'll do fine.
